Rants & Raves

Comments from readers:

WHAT TEACHER IN Richmond County feels any allegiance and plans to come in on a Saturday to teach? Our contracts aren’t worth the paper they’re printed on. They don’t state our salaries or the number of days we have to work. Come on, Pete Fletcher, get ready for more lawsuits. If you have no teachers next year, you won’t have to worry about your darn budget, will you?

A RANT TO DEKE Copenhaver and Mayors Against Illegal Guns for trying to stop HB 875. I don’t know if Copenhaver is still an active member, but this bill is a good step for Georgia gun owners and he should be ashamed to have his name on record for an organization whose end game is confiscation.

RANT TO THE department that handles the red lights on Washington Road. It is not Masters Week yet! Why are you changing the lights already? You are creating traffic for people trying to get to work. My usual travel time on Washington Road at 7:30 in the morning of five minutes now takes 20 in bumper-to-bumper traffic. Please change them back until we get closer to Masters. It is still a month away.

KAY ALLEN RESIGNS. Will she be charged with stealing funds from taxpayers of Columbia County and tried in court or nothing is to be done? We smell a rat. My opinion is that Columbia County government as a whole needs to be investigated, starting with Ron Cross. I am sure others agree. It does not stop there.

RANT TO THE PARENTS of the youths who do not respect their neighbor’s property in Country Place. These youths walk, ride their bikes and play in neighbors’ yards. They are disrespectful and need to be taught respect by their parents. Parents, do you know what your kids are doing and where you kids are?

A BIG RANT FOR Ron Cross and the Columbia County Commission and the brave district attorney. They are allowing Kay Allen to resign and get away with theft.

ANOTHER RANT FOR the people who do not know how to drive. The white and yellow lines that are painted on the streets have meaning. Solid lines mean do not switch lanes or pass. You probably haven’t noticed the lines because you were too busy speeding, tailgating and texting.

RANT FOR THE GUY who put his old toilet in with the storm debris. They are not there to pick that up. Take it to the dump yourself.

Ranter #5- So for Pete's

Ranter #5- So for Pete's sake, why don't you go talk to the parents?

I never had trouble with kids playing in my yard, I would tell them they could, but they had to be really careful, I had 3 dogs, and 3 dogs make a lot of messes.

They found other places to play.

Obamacare reality bites Republican butts.

House Republican ineptitude at governing has been no more apparent than in the Obamacare repeal and replace debacle they're imposed on the nation for the past three years. The repeal part, they got that down after 50 - some votes. The replace part, however, that takes actual hard thinking and policy making, something the Republican Party lost interest in years ago. So it's looking increasingly like they're just going to give up on it. Part of the problem is what we've seen for the whole of Speaker Boehner's ship: he's incapable of leading the tea party contingent he let take control of the conference. They fundamentally don't are about anything other than repeal and they don't want any replacement. That us anything at all to do with Obamacare as it exist now. But Republicans can't actually say out loud that they think insurance companies should be able to refuse to sell you insurance because you have a pre- existing condition, or that insurance companies should be able to just dump you for any reason. But this what the Republicans want insurance companies to be able to do ,however, Obamacare changed the way insurance companies do business . And conservatives and insurance companies are mad. So, every other day you will see news article about how vile Obamacare is and some are misleading.

Even Democrats Afraid of Obamacare

A vote to defund Obamacare would probably gain enough Democratic votes in the Senate to pass now. After the defeat of Democrat Alex Sink in Florida, Democrat elected officials are afraid to support the thing. Even she was saying it needed to be fixed.

That endorsement likely put him on a path to greater political influence and a possible run for, or appointment to a State or Federal position down the road.

Question about Country Place

How far is the nearest Community Green Space from Country Place?
That's right there isn't one near Country Place.

The nearest park is a good 6 miles down the road at Hwy 56 and Phinzey Rd. next to YDC, the JAIL and the main West-East sewer trunk line headed to the Stink Works.

Why do parents, with kids, purchase homes in subdivisions without
parks and/or green space for them to play in?

and to this rant

"Our contracts aren’t worth the paper they’re printed on."

Somehow I get that feeling about a lot of contracts in the USA....slowly, slipping away from the original deal.

Kay Allen

These ranters who are linking the county commission and charging Kay Allen with a crime are off base. The county commission did their job by getting her to resign and getting a little bit of cash back.

It is up to the District Attorney or the U.S. Attorney to charge her with a crime. The District Attorney is not helped by the fact that the Georgia law in play is poorly worded and vague.

youths who do not respect their neighbor’s property

Why is it so different today? Really, I can remember roaming all over Fleming...we didn't have lines that we couldn't cross....kids rode bikes--skated--played & jumped anywhere......Just wide open spaces of fun & games....& we were healthy as all get out too......lean playing machine....we have to let kids be kids again.....we always showed respect to our elders though. We dang well knew our hineys would get a spanking if we didn't.

Rant #7

What about the solid yellow lines in suicide lanes? How are you supposed to get into the suicide lane if you can't cross the yellow line?

National Debt

If you watch Bill Kirby's video piece on Jimmy Demaret located on the AC home page, you will see some old AC articles referring to his victories at the Masters. When showing the 1950 AC headline announcing his victory there is a smaller headline to the right that says, "Law to freeze the national debt at $257M being introduced by the GOP." Republicans have been fighting and losing this battle for a long time.

Crocodile Dundee

Last night I watched parts of that movie again...it dawned on me that I'm married to that kind of man. He shakes hands with all alike---maids--butlers--big shots...they are all the same to him. He smiles & means it, all seem to sense his kindness at heart.
What an amazing world this could be, if only we had trust & goodness in our mind....I trusted a lot more when I was younger but I have lost that feeling.....I wish I could get it back.

Maybe tv news 24/7 is not a good thing after all. Dundee didn't have it.

Country Place

There are two Country Place subdivisions. One is off Highway 56, the other off Washington Road North of Walmart. I have never seen a kid in the CP off Hwy 56. I think they were all collected and sent somewhere.

Seenit had good points about the way we played in when we

were young. I guess in our materialistic society our grass means more than allowing youth to be youth and actually play.

Anything that they are doing outside that is not damage with intent should be applauded. At least they are not inside looking at their phones, looking at porn on the internet, digging in the medicine cabinet or doing anything else that is negative is not positive like physical activity. An old psychiatrist told me one time 'that a body that is physically busy keeps a mind from being mentally bust.' And we all know that when youthful minds get busy they often are busy in a negative way. :)

Ranter: Just look the other way and maybe even go out in the yard to visit. You have things to offer to them and they too have things to offer to you. Hey, I bet you were young one day! :)

Kids playing.

Why are some people so dang cranky about innocent activities? I was never shooed out of anyone's yard when I was a kid. We took the shortest path between two points. Now, if damage is being done, like wearing a path, it is a different story.
At our last home we had 1/3 ownership in a pond. I never ran a kid off from fishing in it; I just asked that they catch and release since it was a small pond without an abundance of fish, and don't leave trash.

As someone above mentioned, I would 10 times rather see them engaging in wholesome activity, even on my property, than blowing people up on a video game, facebooking, or watching porn.

Talk to the parents??? You're

Talk to the parents??? You're kidding right? I don't know what Country Place neighborhood is like, but if there ARE any parents around here, available, they're causing more trouble than the kids! They don't respect themselves, others, or property boundaries either. And going to talk to them is taking your life in your hands. If the person that ranted felt like it was safe to approach any parents, he would have, I'm sure, or quite likely he already did that and it did no good. Let him vent.

"Why do parents, with kids,

"Why do parents, with kids, purchase homes in subdivisions without
parks and/or green space for them to play in?"

In my day, we played in the street. When a car came, somebody would yell "Car!" and we all scattered to the curbs.

And we stayed out of people's yards unless we were playing with a kid that lived in that particular house's yard.

And we all managed just fine.

We skated, biked, skateboarded, played hopscotch, hide and go seek, softball, jump rope- it wasn't hard to find something to do.
