Rants & Raves

Comments from readers:

SOME DRIVERS IN Augusta think it’s OK to make a U-turn on a busy two-lane street. A lot of drivers in Augusta will come to a complete stop on a crowded Washington Road and then go over three lanes so they will not have to find somewhere to turn around. If you do try to leave space between you and the next car, then someone will come rushing up and get between. Downtown and Harrisburg are flush with grocery carts, bicycles and pedestrians who believe they are seen by every motorist.

AT LAST WE have legislation making slow driving in the left lane illegal. It has always been discourteous, dangerous and selfish; now against the law.

THE UNINSURED ARE turning against Republicans. These Republican governors rode a tea party wave in 2010. It’s time to send them out with the tide.

TO DEAL WITH immigration, Congress should fund the INS so that they can catch all illegals and deport them and not provide a path to citizenship for people here illegally, and allows them to pay back their taxes.

A HUGE RAVE for Steve Chalker and Jefferson Energy. Those folks worked tirelessly for many days without proper rest and creature comforts. A special thanks to Chalker, who called me personally about a concern that I had. He is a great asset to the EMC members and just a great guy to talk to. Thanks, Steve, and Jefferson employees.

I LIKE THE new law that says slower traffic needs to get out of the left lane. There also need to be more severe penalties for those who tailgate me when I am in the right lane doing the speed limit with precious cargo (my children) in my vehicle. You do not have the right to endanger others because you are impatient and don’t know how to drive.

A GREAT BIG RAVE for Samaritan’s Purse for volunteering its help in our area with the aftermath of the recent ice storm.

REGARDING THE rants in the Feb. 25 column about replacing food lost in the ice storm only being for food stamp recipients: There is a program called disaster food stamps that anyone can apply for; contact DFCS to see if this program was activated for the Augusta area.

AUGUSTA UTILITIES changes its billing cycle. Pols keep finding new ways to confuse and grab more money. There seems to be no way to avoid confusion from modern government.

Augusta Utilities is grabbing

Augusta Utilities is grabbing money but only has 1 clerk working the inside of the Peach Orchard Rd. office today. Lined out of the door, nut-up junction trying to get in there. I read the entire Old Testament while I waited. Okay, so it was only 30 minutes, I exaggerated. It would be nice if there were a cash payment machine in the lobby, like Verizon and Comcast.

I had to drive I-20 Westbound

I had to drive I-20 Westbound from SC into GA recently. The surface of the road was very rough and there were also cracks and potholes especially in the right lane, forcing you to stay in the left lane as much as traffic would allow. Please do something. I wouldn't be surprised if the bad road condition is a factor in some accidents.

There is already a law that

There is already a law that would solve most of this problem about slower traffic expected to move to the right lane. Do not SPEED! If everyone would obey the speed limit, except for REAL emergencies, this would be a rare issue. Also, do not pass on the right, use your signal lights, do not tailgate and avoid distractions while driving! Commonsense, safety, and courtesy should rule the road, not risk-taking behavior.

Don't get too excited, this won't be practical on anything but limited access highways. I don't imagine the police will have much interest in enforcing it either. Even the author of the bill said it was more about creating awareness of safety issues in clogging up the left lane than actually writing tickets for it.

MOVE!

Autumnleaves, drivers with your mentality are the reason that this legislation exists, true there are laws that cover speeding, tailgating etc. Slower traffic keep right is a solution to keeping traffic congestion down, by keeping lanes open and free for travel for people who choose to drive faster than yourself. If drivers choose to break the law, let them break the law because law enforcement will cite them, they do not need any assistance.

That's the thing that bothers

That's the thing that bothers me. Instead of insisting that everyone obey the law equally, we make exceptions for folk instead of punishing them for breaking the law and endangering others.

It would be interesting to see how a law making it legal to break into another's home would go over. After all, there are so many breakins that it just makes sense to make it legal by punishing the home owner for making it difficult or fatal for the thief.

i am sure the left-lane law
Unpublished

i am sure the left-lane law will get enforced about as much as the texting while driving and doing everything else but driving law does, that is to say: not! until the majority of drivers pull their collective heads out of their collective posteriors and apply themselves to the task at hand instead of living in their insular bubbles, driving anywhere in these united states will be a test of fortitude, patience and skill. these days, i try to stay off the road as much as possible and when i do go anywhere, try to maintain as much distance between myself and every other swinging bob and pouting petunia as i can, which is pretty hard when the majority of drivers out there believe in tailgating.

Someone is living in a Liberal Dream World

THE INSURED & UNINSURED are fed up with the DIM's, not the RINO's.

The recent polls conducted in just the last 30 days, show much higher numbers DISAPPROVED OF DIM's over the Obamacare issue.

Just that maybe a few kool-aide drinking Liberals and Socialist Dim's might take heed, I have quoted a Liberal Website's that used CNN's published findings. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/12/23/polls-obamacare_n_4494074.html

51.4% DISAPPROVE
and only 37.8% Approved

Also here are another set of the latest Liberal and Conservative
POLL numbers
http://elections.huffingtonpost.com/pollster/us-health-bill#!mindate=2013-01-01&selectedpoll=18601&estimate=custom

NOT 1 Major Poll
Has shown there is support for Obamacare by the public.

Kroc Center

''Unfortunately too many of those thousands of people are going there to buy meth......bank that.....Mr. Pie In The Sky''

''Countyman, how do you know that the Kroc Center brings thousands of people into Harrisburg? Because I'm thinking that if that were true, there would be tremendous traffic congestion in that area.''

The following quote is for two of my good friends Pops and Corgimom.. They've obviously never been to the Kroc Center based on the comments. One person actually believes the Kroc Center is attracting meth addicts to Harrisburg. I'm guessing he believes that professional citizens are scared to visit Harrisburg or something. Local families make up a large percentage of the visitors/members using the Kroc. The other person lives in Charlotte, but is asking me how do I know about the situation. Maybe, because I've been to the Kroc Center many times before in the past.. The new Cookout restaurant on Walton Way is the first national chain to open in Harrisburg in years..

The Kroc Center had already had 4,600 members back in January 2012..
''According to data provided to The Augusta Chronicle, more than 4,600 members are currently enrolled with the Kroc Center, which had its grand opening Aug. 6. More than 500 people on average use the facility daily, a number that includes members and day pass holders but also individuals for church services, birthday parties, sports games, the Kroc Center Cafe, classes and use of other facility space.''

Immigration Control?

Illegal Immigration is a source of cheap "willing to work" labor in a country filled with too many that would rather sit at home instead of working, drawing a Government Monthly stipend.

Yes we need to control our borders.
But to be fair to those south of the border that are floating across, or have already crossed the borders ILLEGALLY.

I would say we need to match our Legal handling of Illegal immigrants to that of our neighbor Mexico. While they accuse the USA of being mean, they seem to have better control of ILLEGAL Immigration South of their own borders.

May I Suggest 2 readings that compares US vs. Mexican Immigration laws.

Kroc Center Area Crime Data

Did a quick peek of the 1900 Block of Broad St. if you want see quick crime data for the area it fruitless to try. A person wanting to collect crimes data would have to spend a few hours searching on each street # and street name .

Example:
Today's Crimes map lists 2 crimes, both in Area "OTHER"
A search of EVE St. shows Zero for 2 years?????

Whatever,
in the case Kroc Centers Nationwide that serve the less fortunate.
Yes there small numbers that have serious drug problems, but the Kroc provides help and support to 1000's that need and make good use of the help they provide.

Returning Sunday afternoon from yet another House Hunting trip, in
Madison this time.

East bound on I-120 MM 178 a Small BMW doing 50-55 in the left lane.
Drivers beeping, flashing the driver to no avail.

Why????

As we past the Yahoo on the right, like dozens of other drivers, we saw why.

Him and his buddy were both TEXTING on their Smart Phones.

AutumnLeaves - Driving I-20 Pot holes vs Craters

East Bound from GA Mile Markers 168 to Lake Ocnee bridge.
It is a mess were GADOT did 100's of small square Road Test Samples and counties that only use the road for speed traps.

There is one particular crater a few hundred yards East of MM 146 right lane West Bound, that is large enough to swallow the front wheel of any Motorcycle.

Now here is a LAW that might be good to have on the books.

"Any Ga County or GA City conducting Traffic Enforcement along GA Interstate Roadways must provide 60% of all Interstate Ticket Revenue to GADOT for road maintenance and safety improvements of local Interstate roadways in their enforcement jurisdictions."

Put up or shut up!

Gun rights group Connecticut Carry has issued an ultimatum to politicians in the Constitution State today, telling the government that they should either follow through on their threats to try to confiscate more than 325,000 undocumented firearms and 2 million standard capacity magazines, or admit that they passed a law without the consent of the people, and will repeal it in its entirety:

…State officials look down the barrel of the laws that they created, and it is very probably that they now tremble as they rethink the extremity of their folly. Connecticut Carry calls on every State official, every Senator, and every Representative, to make the singular decision: Either enforce the laws as they are written and let us fight it out in court, or else repeal the 2013 Gun Ban in its entirety.

"THE UNINSURED ARE turning

"THE UNINSURED ARE turning against Republicans."

The UNINSURED have pretty much always been against the Republicans because they are mostly non-working government teat suckers who always vote Democrat for the "free" stuff. You know....the "free" stuff that I have to pay for at the federal and state level.

What the Democrats have to worry about are the 85% of the people who HAD insurance that was excellent to adequate who are now paying, or will pay when Obama quits delaying things, between 50% and 300% MORE in premiums, co-pays, and deductibles for Obamacare policies who cannot continue to see THEIR doctors and go to the HOSPITAL of their choice. Obama and the Democrats have to keep delaying full implementation because IT IS SO BAD that they dare not let people see the full effect before the elections.

85% vs. the 15% of the usual suspects. I'm not saying that the Republicans will automatically win the election. I am just saying that whatever tips the election one way or the other will not be the 15% of uninsured because they always vote Democrat anyway.

I've noticed that if you are

I've noticed that if you are black and don't have a car tag, insurance, and none of your kids are restrained in car seats-the police turn a blind eye (I guess they figure they won't get any money from them so why bother) but it sure seems discriminatory against blacks. Laws are for our safety. I watched a motorcycle cop ignore a car full a black children hanging out the window and then scolded me cause I unlocked a car seat for second to find a pacifier at a traffic light-I was flabbergasted.
