RANT TO ALVIN MASON for appointing a Liber­tarian to the Animal Control board. Since Libertarians do not believe in government, I guess he will advocate closing the pound and just releasing all the strays onto the streets with rabies and all.

I WOULD LIKE to thank University Hospital for the kindness and medical care that was given to me on my recent visit. From the ER to 10W floor, I could not ask for a better group of caring people: the doctors, nurses, the women who took care of my room, brought me food, etc. Thank you from the bottom of my heart; I know you will be blessed.

IT WOULD HAVE been extremely important and beneficial to this community if at least two women would have been appointed to the Urban Redevelopment Authority. Yes, women know business and will get the job done more efficiently while using all cost-savings measures. And it’s not too late to still appoint them.

WHEN WILL ELECTED officials wake up and start making better decisions about improving Augusta? Not one woman was selected to serve on the Urban Redevelopment Authority. Then I wonder why this city is going backwards and can’t get anything done.

THE DUMBED-DOWN education is redesigning the beliefs, the way of life and way of thinking of our children. The children will never know the difference because the liberals are doing everything possible to remove any trace of the free world and demonizing what’s left of it.

THE FEDERAL government is trying to make it mandatory for parents to attend a child-rearing course. They want to make sure our little darlings are thoroughly indoctrinated. We are not heading toward a socialist-type society; we are headed for a communist-run country.

I WAS VERY disappointed in the news coverage of the storm on WGAC. They had news bits now and then and then resumed their regular programming. WBBQ, at least, you could listen all day and they had complete coverage all day long. How nice that was.

GROVETOWN WINS first place for the most trash on the sides of roads. Coming into Grovetown from Horizon Parkway or on Wrightsboro Road, there is a virtual landfill of trash. The road in front of the middle school is littered with trash. This has nothing to do with limbs and trees or the recent ice storm. The streets have been littered for quite some time.

I was too. My wife and I listen to WGAC often and were very surprised at their programming decisions during the storm. We were without power for four days and were certain we'd be able to hear local information from WGAC, but were surprised and disappointed they chose to maintain their regular (non-local) programming. WBBQ did a fine job and should be commended.

How about ditching the Sexism, and allow us to have the BEST.
No matter what sex, race, creed or color?

Is this why we have been reading the Anti-Brad comments.

I doubt a Libertarian would be for closing down the animal shelter and turning strays with rabies loose, but indeed modern Libertarians are rabidly anti-government almost to the point of being anarchists but I would consider them more anarcho-capitalists. So a Libertarian would probably be more in favor of turning the shelter over to a private corporation driven by profit. And hey, if that means they can make money selling your pets to GRU for animal research or to the chop suey house down the street so be it. That's free market baby and free market rules. So who is this Libertarian dog catcher anyway? Well hey at least they are getting elected to something.

Bob Young

I will say I am very pleased that former Augusta mayor Bob Young was pointed to the Urban redevelopment authority. Now he will ask tough questions and watch how every dollar is spent. He will not be a rubber stamp or a yes man. Brad on the other hand is a political opportunist and for those of you who think he will be an attack dog on this board, think again.

Only thing worth listening to on WGAC during the storm was Austin. He had lots of good info. I cannot believe they kept with regular nationally syndicated programming during that kind of emergency. I turned to The Q most of the time and they had lots of continuous updates. I cannot stomach Harley and Mary Liz in the morning. They are grating.

You are 100% correct, I will not be an "attack dog" on the URA. I know that some other folks think that being loudest makes you right, but cooperation and honest hard work is what we need in Augusta, not a bunch of noise that serves no purpose.

#5.. I don't consider myself to be affiliated with either party, because everyone is responsible for the public school system in the US..

The only schools with a higher SAT or ACT score every year in Columbia/Richmond compared to AR Johnson is Davidson/Lakeside and sometimes Greenbrier...

Potemkin Village

Kind of easy for Davidson and Johnson to score well on these tests when they can cherry pick the best students and kick out the ones who don't maintain their grades. These schools are not representative of the system as a whole. They are "show schools". Sort of Potemkin Village schools

Why is it that some people think...

Why is it that some people think that less government means no government?

Also, why do some people think that the government can do everything better than the private sector? Just because the private sector represents free enterprise, which means doing a better job in the vast number of instances, and making a profit they think it's evil.

Profit is the number one driver of quality services and products. That is what causes the private sector to strive for quality and the necessity of pleasing the customers. Otherwise, they go out of business unlike the government who has a monopolistic stranglehold on too many jobs.

Less Government Actually Works & Represents CITIZENS Better

Everyone knows the bigger something is the more complex it is to manage and the more it costs to operate.

Any read the US Constitution lately?

The key word is "GENERAL" not each and every whim of the public.

We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

Anyone else think maybe we have strayed from the US Constitution and fundamental ideas this country was founded on?

WBBQ Car 1 & 9

Speaking with George many times on scene, was a hoot.
I even won the BBQ (On the scene News) prize a few times.

Does anyone have a copy of the "Ballad of car 9" that ran on air
in the early 70's ?

Today's Menu

Good Morning from the "Broad St. Canal Coffee, Bar and Grill and Psychiatric Center" Today's brunch menu is a casserole of yellow grits with sharp cheddar cheese, sausage and eggs and don't forget our Big Ole Cathead Biscuit with Cane Syrup!!! It's accompanied with glass of hope called our beloved Southern "Mint Julep". Yes, two of these and our casserole and you'll wander through the day with a pleasant outlook on it all. We're not sure if that how the DDA and ARC Elected Officials do it, but it does seem like more than a coincidence!!

This Wasn't A Cabinet Appointment

With all the commotion the appointment to the Urban Redevelopment Authority is causing, it’s starting to sound like the appointment is to some high level Presidential cabinet position with Senate hearings. This appointment of Brad Owens to the URA or the non-appointment of a certain person is getting to be an event with almost daily rants and comments following. Is the URA that powerful and is being a member that important? There has to be a story behind these constant attacks on Brad. I mean Brad is a great guy and all, but the whole authority would serve the city better by donning the old CADI shirts and sweeping up the sidewalks.

When was the last time you heard of a duly elected, non-scandal ridden mayor of a city resigning from the position of mayor in order to accept a "better" job?

I think most people assumed Mr. Young was serious when he asked them to elect him Mayor of Augusta.

This person is almost as destructive as her bed partner whose goal is to destroy America from within and has done a pretty darn good job doing so.
Her goal is to make sure that any threads of "Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness that remains available no longer exist. To control what a person eats is equivalent to how much air we consume.

One Other Thing,

A month or so ago, Sean ask if we would like him to post pictures sent in by commentators. Most of us yelled "Yes".
Have you noticed that very few comments have been made on the ones that he has provided. He has done his best to help the R&R's which on some days are real boring or reruns of the Same-o Same-o.
Come on Folks, lets give him some respect and support for his time and effort.

Absolutely right. But that's not all, profit is the number one driver of an economic system that has proven itself, time and again, to be the most successful Economic system the world has ever known. It is Capitalism that allows the poor and downtrodden to achieve more and rise further into the economic and social structure than any other system ever invented, or even envisioned.
