Site visits will begin to be conducted by compliance investigators to inspect contractor’s coverage, according to a news release.
An employer with three or more full- or part-time or seasonal workers are subject to the Workers’ Compensation Act and required to provide employers with insurance. For businesses out of state, employers must provide proof of coverage for Georgia. Failure to provide insurance may subject the employer to civil penalties up to $5,000 per violation as well as criminal prosecution.
Citizens in need of tree removal services or construction repair should request proof of general liability and workers’ compensation coverage prior to work being performed.
Proof comes in the form of a certificate of insurance and can be verified by visiting sbwc.georgia.gov or calling (800) 743-5436.
