MARION WILLIAMS wants to command where a city worker can live? Why not just assign the workers by throwing the dice for Section 8, mixed-used complexes or which private apartments? Why let them choose at all?

WE THE TAXPAYERS and citizens of Augusta-Richmond County have two burning questions. What was the outcome on the $25,000 missing from our tax commissioner’s office? What was the outcome from the slick lady that duped students from Butler High School in reference to the Washington, D.C., trip?

A BIG RAVE AND thank-you to the person or persons responsible for the right passing lane at Washington Road and Knob Hill Road.

NOW OBAMA WANTS to extend unemployment payments rather than create jobs for the unemployed. Unfortunately he has never created a job in his life and doesn’t know how. All he has to do is approve the Keystone pipeline, stop blocking fracking on federal land and void the anti-business rules the “tree huggers” at the EPA have imposed on American businesses. This would get the economy booming.

THE PROPERTY VALUES in south Richmond County are definitely going up. With all the improvements going on in south Augusta, we should try to improve ourselves and quit throwing our garbage on the streets.

THE PUSH FOR religious-themed caroling within public areas of the VA is just ridiculous. As a veteran of two recent conflicts who uses the VA for all primary care I would be incredibly put-off having to hear songs about someone else’s god. The VA is a MEDICAL facility, not a church, not a worship center, a hospital. A hospital where veterans of ALL faiths go to receive care after serving their country. Have some respect for them. I would have no problem asking them to not sing those songs including “god” or other religious themes.

PEOPLE ARE ASKING who gave that Bieber kid alcohol and drugs. I would like to know who rented him a $200,000 sports car when he does not have a driver’s license.

WOULD ANY OF our previous presidents allow 140,000 people in Syria to be slaughtered without action or interest?

Words To Live By....

"All cities do. Get over it."

Exactly the point. So why hang around Augusta's Newspaper's discussion boards badmouthing Augusta. Or are you suggesting these folks visit the sites of all communities where they DON'T LIVE and spend their days badmouthing them as well?

Dissecting posts

I don't appreciate others dissecting my posts & THINKING they know where I pay taxes, they don't.
Augusta Chronicle & Sean will bann anyone going overboard on here.....I have full confidence in that fact.....what is puzzling is that some residents in the county do more bashing than a few outsiders (with good reason) & I hear that they can, & no one bashing them...well, that to me is a contradiction of sorts..

Anyway, there is an easy solution....IGNORE THAT POSTER....push the ignore button & take the misery away...thank you

Another thing...Augusta Chronicle WANTS their business....money talks yaknow.

Seenitb4.. I gave you a

Seenitb4.. I gave you a honest answer yesterday, and you simply didn't want to hear it. I clearly explain how the crime map included every single type of crime, and then you went back to mention the eight burglaries.. I tried to explain the difference between Richmond Hill road and Richmond Hill West(majority of the crimes).. You immediately dismissed my responses, and brought section 8 into the discussion..

Did you really want the 'answer' to the question or for somebody to admit what you 'think' is the answer?

Corgimom.. The overall tone of your 9:58 post is completely watered down compared to the other comments..

Augz79.. I bet you probably live in a Columbia County, and of course the comments don't bother you.. How would moving to another city help me realize Augusta is the next Detroit or everywhere in Richmond County provides the same crime rate? Why don't we ever focus on the bad in the surrounding counties if everywhere has bad aspects?

Harley seems to have a problem with people not living in Augusta commenting about Augusta. Well my good man the area is linked whether you like it or not. We go to doctors, restaurants, stores and use businesses that are located through out Augusta. So we are impacted by what goes on just as we impacted by what happens throughout the CSRA. We pay to subscribe to the AC and therefore are allowed to use the website. If you don't like what non-Augustans say than just don't read our comments. But you aren't going to stop anyone from commenting anytime soon. So get over it!

Double standard..

The people who desperately want you to acknowledge the negatives of Augusta..

Why don't they read #5 in the rant/raves today and then admit South Augusta has many positives?

Anytime I mentioned the nice homes, or the growth in South Augusta..

The same people tell me I'm wearing rose colored glasses, living in a fantasy world, etc

I do understand that the Apts on Richmond Hill can be a problem ..I GET THAT...what I asked & will still, is this.:"How many section 8 moved to that area?"

That is a legit question...do YOU know?? You can't sugar coat all the breakins....it wasn't the top crime area B4....admit that there are problems in the county & we al can move on. thank you

"Why don't we ever focus on the bad....

....in the surrounding counties if everywhere has bad aspects?"

That's a good question and it's one I've wondered out loud about before.

I guess it comes down to this.....it has become a sport, in here, to badmouth Augusta, GA. To some, it's the "in" thing to do. It's like the junior varsity cheerleader squad deciding they don't like some thing, or somebody, and then dedicating their lives trying to make everybody else dislike that thing, or that person. No useful purpose is served, but it makes the whole squad feel sooooo superior when they can pat themselves and each other about how weally, weally cool they are for dragging it/them down.

I'm A Little Surprised...

...that ARC has enjoyed some of the remarkable growth it has seen in the past decade, or so. In the 33 years I've lived here, it has been astounding and the most recent announcements bode well for the future.

I guess I have to conclude there aren't too many people reading these comments about how horrible is Augusta. I'm thankful for that.

I'll Be Leaving In A Short While....

...to take a drive out to my property in the beautiful Columbia County with my son-in-law and granddaughters. We'll probably do a little fishing in my pond and enjoy the peace and quiet and nice weather we're having today.

I love Columbia County for what it has to offer, just like I love ARC for what it means to me and my family. I see absolutely no value in seeking out the worst in anything (or anybody) and spending my time and efforts in trying to tear it (or them) down.

Rose-colored glasses

The suggestion to self-deport yourself to another locale would be to get your perception of reality back in touch with RealReality(tm)

You may be in need of RealReality(tm) if you exhibit the following signs or symptoms...
* Refuting any slight against your city with a list of new retail establishments to the point where other posters question if you are on the CVB payroll.
* Becoming so hyper defensive about your city that you demand to see tax receipts of posters threatening your rose-colored version of reality of your city.
* Tirelessly attempting to get catch-phrases to catch on, such as SWAG, SouthWest Augusta, North Richmond -- even if said phrases are not gaining traction.
* Implying that the Augusta Exchange area is an edge city when it isn't even outside of our own city -- never mind that Augusta is not big enough to have anything you could call an "edge city" with a straight face.

Please note that starting a dosage of RealReality(tm) may cause disillusionment, weight gain, and in rare events slight risk of stroke. Please ask your physician if you are prone to any of these side effects.

RealReality(tm) is now available at liquor stores, nail salons, Walmarts, and at any APT bus stop city-wide. Ask your physician if RealReality(tm) is right for you.

I agree with you. Some seem hyper sensitive to certain comments made by certain people on this board. I can't speak for others but I live in the CSRA area by choice. No I wasn't born here but of the entire country this is here I chose to retire. It's a wonderful place full of truly friendly people. When comments are made criticizing Augusta it doesn't mean folks don't want to see it better but it would be ignorant not to take note. Augusta and the CSRA have much to offer and as CM often says more is coming. CM is know as a cheerleader and good for him. I look forward to new developments as much as he does. However I'll not stop commenting on things that I think need attention.

Facts

The citizens in Richmond County already use the words Southwest Augusta or North Richmond.. The people who have a problem with the phrases don't even live in Richmond County. The first person to attack my comment today is Riverman, and he lives in Columbia County. Why do you think his opinion is more valid than Richmond County citizens?

It's amazing that I provide the links to backup my claims, and they accuse me of wearing rose colored glasses.. I can't mention anything related to Columbia County without the same people responding quickly.. Then you want to call me hyper defensive, because I disagree that everywhere in RC has the same crime rate..

The majority of my comments are related to economic development, and they make some people become hyper defensive. They always have to bring up something irrelevant, because Richmond County is growing..

I think you need to research the definition of 'edge city'... The definition consist of being a former rural area outside of the traditional downtown.. The city of Augusta is consolidated with Richmond County, and the Augusta Exchange is clearly the suburbs..

Double standard..

The main problem revolves around people who expect you to have the same negative image of Augusta they do..

Why does somebody care what you call the Augusta Exhange? Riverman didn't like the comment either, and reponded back with telling me that Evans was already one lol.. The Augusta Exchange is much closer to becoming one, but you didn't mind his comment..

Why do the people who live outside of Richmond County become upset/agitated if your excitement about Richmond County?

Look at the number of thumbs down, or the negative responses whenever I mentioned the economic development in RC..

A parable

How can I put this...

Hobbies are good. Interests are good. Pride in one's community is good also.

Say there is this guy named Joe. He really likes feet. Really. He surfs the internet for pictures of feet, he posts on message boards about feet, he daydreams about feet... Sometimes he goes on long diatribes about feet and how people who don't like feet are out to get him.... much to the worry of those around him, who are concerned about him as a person.

So one day he realized, this is ridiculous. I am a grown man and this started out as a good interest, but I let it get too far, and I am too obsessed about feet. So he detoxes, re-joins the real world, maybe he even deletes his old feet-loving account name and starts anew.

He that has ears, hear. I am not going to spell it out any clearer than this.

Yes, we do have a negative

Yes, we do have a negative opinion of Augusta. IT is well-deserved, we aren't making anything up.

And that is our right.

And nobody has the right to tell us that we can't post on here except Sean Moores and the AC.

I don't understand the

I don't understand the viewpoint of adults who "brag" about a store being in their town.

I also don't understand the viewpoint of adults who think run-of-the-mill chain stores bring "prestige" to their community.

Prestige from whom? Who is impressed by them?

What does it signify, other than some retailer is trying to get people to spend money in their store rather than another?

All these national stores do is decimate the stores that are already there. They cannibalize sales.

Bringing stores into a community doesn't increase spending, it just cuts the disposable income pie into smaller slices.

I don't necessarily consider it progress when one store comes in and then another store goes out of business. What was gained?

A big 14 screen theatre is coming. Does anybody think that will make people go to the movies more? No, it just slices an already-shrinking pie into smaller pieces. Probably one, if not two, theatres are going to go out of business. How is that progress?

When I buy gas at Costco, I don't use more gas; it just means that I spend less at BP. When I buy toilet paper at Costco, I don't use more toilet paper; it just means that I don't buy it at Walmart.

"Progress" is like everything else in life. It has a flip side, and the flip side isn't pretty.
