Snow flurries possible Tuesday

There is a slight chance for snow flurries starting Tuesday, but don’t stock up on milk and bread just yet.

“It’s really difficult to get snow this far South,” said Hunter Coleman, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Columbia.

The Columbia area got a few flurries in November, and Atlanta-area residents have seen snow several times since winter started, but Coleman said this is Augusta’s first real opportunity.

Meteorologists are watching weather models closely and said the forecast has continued to change, but as of Friday morning, the biggest chance falls from Tuesday evening to Wednesday evening.

“It’s still quite a ways out and pretty uncertain,” Coleman said.

In this part of the South, meteorologists said, there usually isn’t a whole lot of confidence about a possible snowfall until a few days to a day before it happens.

In this area, snow typically occurs when a surface low pressure system travels across central Florida and the Carolina coast.

Regardless of snow, the colder-than-normal temperatures will continue for at least the next week.

Meteorologists expects to see highs from the upper 30s to lower 40s and lows in the upper teens to lower 30s, about 20-25 degrees below normal.

I picked up milk on the way

I picked up milk on the way home just now before reading this story. Seems like every time there's a one in a million chance of snow, I happen to be out of milk and bread.

Just wondering

Just wondering why we run out and buy milk, bread and eggs. I understand the bread for sandwiches if the power goes out. Never could understand the milk and eggs. Educate me folks.

Perhaps we are the victims of multiple generations of subtle grocer suggestion -- after all, a grocer would rather his/her stock of perishables is paid for and sitting in someone else's fridge when the power goes out ...

I can live several days on

I can live several days on whatever food I happen to have on hand..I'd have to agree with not wanting to run out of toilet paper. That's disaster waiting to happen!
