Rants & Raves

Comments from readers:

I WENT TO GET my car registration renewed today. I could have left my car running on Laney-Walker; I was in and out of there so fast. Why don’t we make the tax commissioner, county administrator? Based on a solid record of improved public service we should promote. Who else in our government can say that? No wait a minute: If we do that, tag registration might go bad again.

COLUMBIA COUNTY Tax Commissioner Kay Allen should resign at once.

RAVES TO THE nurses at GRU Cancer Center.

RAVE FOR Platinum Marine customer service! With several factory mistakes not fixable by the dealer, they immediately picked the pontoon up and returned it to the factory for them to repair. This all at no cost. Plus, they did several significant things I wanted done at no cost to repay my inconvenience.

PERHAPS THE most shameful legacy of the Obamas is they did nothing to promote young people obtaining an education, getting a job and getting married before having babies. They make a perfect example of how to succeed and they have unprecedented influence.

A RANT TO OUR judicial system: Kill a dog and you go to jail, molest a 6-year-old girl and you get probation. Is this backward or just wrong?

THIS IS A RANT against Operation Thunder and Sheriff Roundtree for requesting it to return. This is all about money. If it were truly about crime suppression/prevention? Then they’d have a similar operation in our high-crime areas.

THE RICHMOND COUNTY Sheriff’s Office must be desperate for more money, because they seem to be lurking around Farrington/Highpoint Estates trying to single out black drivers to harass them. I can’t even come in or come out of my residence without getting pulled over just because you cops think you all can do whatever you want to. Find some real crimes instead of pulling my people over asking dumb questions. This shows how not busy the sheriff’s department really is. These cops are a joke.

IT IS A GOOD thing Gov. Nikki Haley doesn’t have a child in the Richmond County School System. She’d be banned from the school.

POLLS ALREADY SAY Hillary Clinton and Gov. Chris Christie lead the party picks for the next presidential elections. If those are the best the pols have to offer, freedom is doomed.

Augusta continues to move forward!!!

The national media continues to watch Augusta because were finally becoming progressive in certain aspects..

2. Greenspace(Diamond Lakes, Butler Creek Greenway, etc)
3. Shopping(Cabela's, Whole Foods, DSW, Home Goods, Michael Kors, H&M, etc)
4. Infrastructure(Highway 56 improvements, Windsor Spring widening, I-520 expansion, Wrightsboro rd widening, etc)

Countyman, That's Good Info

Countyman, that's good info. The CSRA has some of the cheapest living in the country. We live in paradise here, but many don't realize it.

I lived in two major cities previously, but what I didn't have when I lived in those cities were the things like being able to play golf and get on the water. For example, I paid a fortune for a doggone townhouse in Wheaton, MD where people fished in a ditch and drove 40 miles to golf on a sucky course. Wheaton is a DC suburb for those who don't know.

I mean the wealthy people from all over the world come to the CSRA for our golf, horses, hunting and quaint Aiken and Augusta atmosphere. Some don't understand.

This isn't about moving

This isn't about moving forward, Countyman. The house prices are low and the rents are low because there aren't many high-paying jobs in Augusta. Supply and demand.

Tax Commissioner

The rant/rave that did get me was the suggestion the Richmond County Tax Commissioner should become the County Administrator. Isn't he the one who was in charge when the safe was left opened and a $25,000 cash payment disappeared? I've come to believe since that incident that Steven Kendrick had nothing to do with the money disappearing, but his lack of supervision/leadership doesn't lead me to believe he could be effective in other roles serving the public.

Columbia County Hospital

About the article concerning GRU building a hospital in Columbia County, I encourage all to find the article (that disappeared) and read the comments. There is absolutely no reason to believe University Hospital and Doctor's Hospital wouldn't also gain a Certificate of Need (CON) to establish a hospital in Columbia County. Columbia County should consider all bids and wait to see what happens with the state awarding the CON. Then whatever the county decides is the best organization to open a hospital in Columbia County, also look into it to determine if the organization is independent of Richmond County politics from a county level or even a state one.

The "High Paying Jobs"......

.....that allow folks to live in big, nice homes in the peaceful, safe suburbs of Augusta are, by and large, jobs in Augusta, not jobs from the suburbs. SRS is definitely one of the major sources of "high paying jobs," the others being Fort Gordon and the various medical facilities located in Augusta.

Augusta is a great place to live, work, and play!!!

The number of cities across the US is probably over 30,000 and we made the top ten..

While neither the city of Indianapolis or Columbus can touch Minneapolis, the MSA of Indianapolis is the fastest growing in the Midwest I believe.

R&R Commenters to the rescue

Yes, RM, the current "Most Discussed" list algorithm shuts off debate way too soon. The desires of University Hospital and Grooo Medical Center to establish a full-service hospital in Columbia County have now been taken hostage by King Ron Cross and the Columbia County Commission to suck in the Columbia County property tax payer instead of petitioning for a certificate of need without taxpayer subsidy first.

The mysterious algorithm removed the story from the list. Here is the link:

Grooo vs. University

Let us Rant & Rave commenters unite and post comments on that story. You can post "yabba-dabba-do" or "let us sickies rise up!" or some such nonsense, but post a comment on that story and see if we can make the algorithm bring the thread back to the "Most Discussed" list!

Sheriff Roundtree need to

Sheriff Roundtree need to come behind his desk and get off his cozy butt , and ride areas where his deputies are asking dumb question and harassing citizens. We don't need a paper pushing sheriff. A sheriff should patrol the street. He be puzzle to see how some of his deputies are breaking more laws than citizens.

You answered your own Rant__they are an example. People would rather "see" a sermon than "hear" one.

Besides, my guess is you would accuse him of interfering with church and family matters (some all ready make that claim.)

Haley and Richmond County Schools

I think the post about Nikki Haley is actually about the Richmond County mother who was banned from the school as a volunteer because she posted on FB her gun permit. Of course Haley has a gun and is proud of it. Her husband gave her another one for Christmas.

CBBP,

I speak fluent South Augusta...

KOD is saying that Sherriff Roundtree should be patrolling certain areas periodically to ensure his deputies are exercising their duties proficiently and professionally, instead of just sitting behind his desk reading reports.

I kind of agree with this.

Also, their are allegations being made that some deputies are stopping vehicles in and around the Farrington subdivision and that they are racially profiling.

I have been told by a deputy that they actually do racially profile in the Vice and Narcotics Division.

Being a good citizen vs being just another chumpline.

This is a straight out RANT
=================
WE NOW HAVE A NEW CHECKPOINT TACTIC
This new tactic involves the FED's using contractors for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Using "off-duty" but still in uniformed police at what they call "voluntary roadside checkpoints". Where motorists are questioned about their driving and where they are coming from and headed to and a list of other questions.

Some of these checkpoints have now started collecting blood and saliva samples by implied intimidation, in addition to breath samples.

So it is clear the Fed's are hiring state and Local LEO'S to do their work, because legally they are not allowed do so.

Note: I am not implying Operation Thunder or any other RCSO activities were part of this.

But NHTSA does funnel a lot of extra $$$$ and equipment to LEO depts. that help out.

It is clear
Either way we moving to another level of federally sponsored security sweeps.

QUESTION?
What has happen to my Free and Open country, since the Patriot Act came into being and has been renewed and strengthen several times since 2001?

LL, Thanks for the Columbia County Hospital Link

LL, thanks for the Columbia County hospital link. I want everyone to understand what's going on before those who really don't understand make the wrong decision that will affect the county tremendously in the future. It's best to start things right.

"If those are the best the

"If those are the best the pols have to offer, freedom is doomed."

From Rolling Thunder "papers please" checks to the NSA data collection.......from RAIN TAX to the Obamacare takeover of health care........from a country where 50% of the people bear 100% of the federal tax burden to a country where 47 million people draw unearned partial or total life support subsidies........freedom is already doomed.

You cannot have freedom when you have so many other people to support. To support that many people with total life support & free medical care, plus pay for normal government operations, the government MUST keep the taxes, fees, fines, and penalties flowing in from the working MIDDLE CLASS. Freedom????? You've already lost your freedom to socialism.

Government kills off jobs with stupid policies and regulations, blames the rich, and taxes the middle class to bail itself out. What a deal.

For Dichotomy...

“I am for doing good to the poor, but...I think the best way of doing good to the poor, is not making them easy in poverty, but leading or driving them out of it. I observed...that the more public provisions were made for the poor, the less they provided for themselves, and of course became poorer. And, on the contrary, the less was done for them, the more they did for themselves, and became richer.”

― Benjamin Franklin

Socialists Have Taken Over

So true, Dichotomy. America has been taken over by socialists where half the people live off the rest of us as surely as by a hundred thousand man communist guerilla Army marching on Havana in 1959. Soon we’ll all be trying to find parts for our 58 Buicks.

Terror group or musings of ole men

This is almost funny except these ole men could end up in jail.....it seems they met at the Waffle House & eateries in the North Ga mountains....they are accused of plotting to make ricin to kill off some gov. officials that were whittling away at the Conststitution....wait a minute...that could be us too.....geez

They didn't make any ricin they talked a good game.....some in their 70s...but they could talk....there was a rat in the mix & he ratted out to daddie gov......nevermind that the guy was wanted for child molestation type crimes.....what a mess for these ole guys......free speech they say is what they were dong...they had castor beans to kill off moles but they had not made any poison to kill humans......well now, I guess the gov thinks they have broken up a huge militia group....just let them get on their ride about & get their canes & they will show the young whipper snappers a thing or two.
