The frigid weather projected for Tuesday could break records for the highest and lowest temperature ever recorded for Jan. 7.

Accuweather projects Augusta’s high Tuesday to be 30 degrees and its low to be 9.

The lowest low temperature ever recorded on Jan. 7 was 15 degrees. The 9-degree weather would tie for the eighth-coldest low temperature ever recorded in January at Augusta Regional Airport since 1944. A 9-degree temperature was recorded Jan. 8, 1970. The coldest low recorded in January was -1 degrees in 1985.

Even the projected high could break records at 30 degrees. The coldest Jan. 7 high recorded was 32 degrees.

It would tie for the fifth-coldest January high temperature ever recorded. According to National Weather Service data, high temperatures dropped to 30 degrees in 1982 and twice in January 1970.

Weather vs. Climate

The difference between the two is that weather happens in the now and climate is the 30 year average for the region. Simply experiencing an isolated event of low temperatures does not negate the overall increase in climatic readings regionally, nationally, and internationally.

Yeh....tell that to those ships frozen in the "disappearing" ice pack down in Antartica. Make sure Al Gore counts THIS year in his overall averages and ice pack calculations.

Better not bring that science mumbo jumbo around here pal. Hey, maybe Mr. McKee can draw another funny cartoon and we call all go back to blissful ignorance and concentrate on what's really important - watching Duck Dynasty.

Record "lows" have been

Record "lows" have been reported from Washington D.C. for years now. The contemptible behavior and new "lows" of most of Congress has generated a "Butterfly effect" and producing these low temperatures in the region. Don't worry I predict a warm front from the hot air of said politicians will soon follow and that should warm things up.

As I write this it is 9 below zero in Lawrenceburg,In. where I live now but back in 1985 I lived up on the hill in Augusta buy the Airplane Hangers at Daniel Field I had a weather station and logged the Temps. every day and that day in Jan-85 I had a low of -2 and I was working at Eckerd Drugs at Daniel Village and I walked to work that morning. All so the high temp that day was 27.

When we have an unusually cold day or two liberals say it is only an isolated event, when we have an unusually hot day or two they swear it is positive proof of global warming. You can not reason with unreasonable people.

Talk to me about man made global warming when once again England is growing grapes for wine! And remember, man had nothing to do with it then! Or now. It is just what our world does.

Brrrrrr

Yeah, I remember '85. I was in the field at Ft. Stewart sleeping in a tent and putting a plastic bag around the foot of my sleeping bag to keep my toes from snapping off. The bag would have water in it in the mornings due to the difference in my body temp and the air.

Remember all the Climate Change between 1959-2010?

Having grown tried of the Climate Warming, now Climate Change and MAN Caused this, constantly adjusting theory & argument. I have spent several hours digging up weather data. Anyone with their eyes open should see a cycle here.

Solar Cycles run about every 11 years.
Fact: At peak points during the cycle temp's on Earth increase.
http://www.aanda.org/articles/aa/full/2006/08/aa4060-05/img21.gif
Note: Solar cycles and weather cycles in Augusta.

El Niño (hot) and La Niña (cold) El Niño and La Niña events occur about every 3 to 5 years. Typically, El Niño (hot) occurs more frequently than La Niña. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/4/40/El_nino_north_a...

My Source of the following data so you can Fact check me.
www.weatherspark.com/history/29594/####/Augusta-Georgia-United-States (####=year)

Which collects NOAA data which goes back to 1948 for the

Notes:
Regarding the high record temps.
It was discovered back in 2006 or 2007 that a lot of the High Temp Readings were in error. It seem a lot of the USA City Temp sensors were placed next to, or close to artificial (man made) heat sources. Once the sensors were moved to temperature neutral locations the Temps started following previous weather patterns.

Using the 3rd party NOAA data collected above

There seems to be lower temps recorded.

Some Example:
1985 January 21, with a low temperature of -1°F.
1982 January 11, with a low temperature of 3°F.
1970 January 9, with a low temperature of 6°F.
1966 January 30, with a low temperature of 6°F.

between weather and climate. Climate change. Hmm, should I go with Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and AC-subscriber independent studies? Or should I go with the consensus of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Chemical Society, the U.S. National Academy of Sciences, the American Geophysical Union, the Geological Society of America, the American Medical Association, the American Physical Society, the American Meteorological Society, and Bill Nye the Science Guy!

Let me think.
