WARRENTON, Ga. — The Warren County coroner is awaiting forensic identification of two people who died in a car crash on Interstate 20 on Christmas Eve.

Warren County Coroner Paul Lowe said victims of Tuesday’s fatal car crash are believed to be an elderly couple. He said that the bodies will be taken to the GBI Crime Lab in Atlanta on Thursday for identification through DNA samples.

Georgia State Patrol trooper Ahmed Sayad of the Grovetown Post said witnesses said a newer model white Ford Taurus was traveling in the left lane on eastbound I-20 around 5:15 p.m. near the Cadley Road exit when the vehicle ran into the median. The driver overcorrected, crossed over both eastbound lanes of the roadway and crashed into tress, bursting into flames.

Have mention this section of Interstate 20 before

The GADOT has been needing to address and growing number of Tire size potholes from Mile Marker starting around 164 to 139.

Some are prefect motorcycle front tire trap shaped gulleys, 3 to 4 feet long and 4 to 8 inches wide.

Some are mini sink holes 2x2ft and a 4+ inch drop.

Some are where GADOT test samples were laid.

We have been noticed that section getting worse on each of our house hunting trips up to NE GA.

Eastbound?

Unpublished

The story mentions the EASTBOUND lanes twice. But honestly, it really doesn't make any difference. A couple have lost their lives on Christmas Eve. My prayers to their family.

Sure praying they find out who they are

Sure pray they find out who this elderly couple is so family can be notified. I wonder if they were heading to someone's home to have Christmas, but maybe more likely heading back home. That's such a sad thing but God knows best and knew it was in His mercy that they went together. We don't know the details yet and I shouldn't speculate anything, just pray very hard that someone will be found who knows them. This is devastating.

Very odd there is no ID

Almost always folks have a license with them, and here there were two occupants in the car. Or the police could read the VIN and find the registered owner of the car as a start. VINs are located in several areas in every car.

I agree with Dixieman

Even with a fire destroying license plate and licenses, there are VIN numbers on multiple car parts. They should be able to find ID that way. There is probably some family distraught wondering where their family is. So sad.
