Augusta Regional Airport daily maximum parking rates increase

Fliers departing Augusta Regional Airport will pay more per day to park their cars in long- and short-term parking lots.

The daily maximum rate was raised $1 in both lots, bringing the highest total paid per vehicle daily to $10 in short-term parking and $8 in long-term.

The Augusta Aviation Commission approved the rate increase Thursday. Hourly rates, which increased last year, did not change.

The parking rate increase is expected to bring in an additional $65,000 annual revenue, airport staff said. The last daily maximum increase was in 2009.

Airport officials studied parking rates at 10 other area airports, and found that Augusta Regional’s rates were lower than most of the airports surveyed.

The same rate increase approved Thursday was denied by the commission in April when it was part of a larger proposal to replace a parking management company with internal staffing services, which the commission opposed.

Also at Thursday’s meeting, the commission approved a contract to begin preliminary design work for a $6.5 million rental car maintenance facility. The facility would serve all rental car companies at the airport and have space for car washes, mechanical work and refueling.
