South Aiken High School teacher, coach charged with sexual battery


A South Aiken High School teacher and athletic coach was arrested Wednesday and charged with five counts of sexual battery with a student.

Michael Paul Waters, 41, of Aiken, was involved in an “ongoing, unlawful physical relationship” with a South Aiken High student, according to Aiken Department of Public Safety spokesman Lt. Jake Mahoney. The relationship occurred while Waters was employed at the school.

According to the South Aiken High Web site, Waters taught economics and geography. He was the head coach for men’s soccer and the football team’s defensive back coach.
