Rants & Raves

RANT FOR commissioners going out of town and spending $8,000. You need to stay here and take care of business and stop going on these junkets because they are doing nothing to improve the quality of life in Augusta. It is a waste of time and money.

AUGUSTA AND Harlem, before you spank your kids, get the alcohol, drugs and violence out of your house. Don’t punish your kids for what you do.

ALL YOU movie-makers, leave the old movies alone. When you remake those movies, you destroy them.

SOMETHING SHOULD be done about setting Scott Dean free. It is wrong to keep him in jail because of the tales this girl told.

TWO WEEKS AGO I left my purse in a cart at Wal-Mart. When I returned to the store, this gracious lady had turned it in. I am so grateful there are honest people in this city. Thank you very much.

ALL PEOPLE ON food stamps, please read the letter from Bobby Ross in The Chronicle. All you women and men on food stamps need to get to work and get off food stamps. Those who have worked all our lives are just helping you have extra children. Go to work.

WHEN WILL WE realize that Azziz was sent here to destroy Augusta? When will you wake up and get rid of him.

I WAS REAL surprised about the people left in Cherry Tree. One woman said she never intended it to be permanent, but she had been there 11 years. I don’t know what she considers permanent. Wherever they go, you can bet they will have the same problems wherever they go.

FOLLOWING THE example of Europe, one by one, countries in the Americas outlawed slavery in the second half of the 19th century, most without a war. Why does the South have to shoulder worldwide blame for having slaves when South and Central America and the Caribbean Islands also had slavery and discrimination?

A NEWS ARTICLE stated, “The city leaders of Augusta are going out of town ...” The terms “city leaders” and “Augusta” should not be used in the same document!

SO WHAT IF GM doesn’t like the terms of its stock deal with the government? The Treasury should not be selling GM stock at a loss! This is another sweetheart deal that Obama made with his cronies that is costing us, the taxpayers.

Real Facts vs. Blamed

The Northerners owned the slave ships.

The Northerners and their Black-African contractors captured and ferried the slaves to the South.

The Northerners sold the slaves to the Southern States.

The Southern states being agricultural, grew crops and cotton which was sold mainly to the Northerners and shipped out via a majority Northern Owned Ships. To mainly Northerner located and owned cotton Mills. An resold/reshipped using Northern Ships.

So, The Northern Emancipation Proclamation DID not free slaves! in the NORTH or the South.

Yes I said NORTH & SOUTH!

The Federal Government still ALLOWED SLAVES TO BE HELD in Tennessee, Kentucky, Kansas, New Jersey, Delaware, West Virginia, Maryland, Missouri, Washington, D.C., and twelve parishes of Louisiana. These did not free their slaves until Dec 1865++. 8++ months after the war ended.

The 13th amendment, abolishing slavery, was passed by the Senate in April 1864, and by the House of Representatives in January 1865. The amendment did not take effect until it was ratified by three fourths of the states, which occurred on December 6, 1865, when Georgia ratified it. On that date, all remaining slaves became officially free. So Georgia Freed the Slaves not the North

BTW: If Washington DC, (UNION), New Jersey (UNION), Delaware (UNION), and others had slaves through the Civil War. Then, how could the war have been ever truly about FREEING the Slaves?
Winners may rewrite History, but facts are facts.

Matter of Fact Delaware did not sign off on the 13th Amendment until 1901, 46 years after the war.

Mississippi revoted and resigned in 1995, to correct and Official paperwork recording error, that was made 120+ years prior.

A little piece of forgotten Richmond Co. History

After the War of 1812 (1812-15) some southern leaders, in an attempt to duplicate the prosperity of cotton mills in the NORTH, built textile factories in the South.

William Schley, a Georgia governor, constructed the Richmond Factory on Spirit Creek in Augusta in 1834. This is where Richmond Factory Pond gets it name from.

If it does not offend the Lady on Ft. Gordon, A a Historical Maker should be erected along US 25 at the Spirit Creek Bridge.

Because of 1834 SOUTH SIDE BUSINESS Venture which is directly responsible for encouraging other businessmen to invest in the Mill industry. By 1840 nineteen textile mills were in production in Georgia.

It would be 1845, 11 years later before the Augusta Canal is built. An it would be Enterprise Mill in 1878, 1881 King Mill and the Sibley Mill in 1882 almost 30+ years later.

SOUTH SIDE RULES
Choke on that Downtown.

LOL, it does seem that way at times. But did you really think it could be Augusta University at Atlanta?

Duke Should Start Basketball Team Against FSU

Duke plays Florida State for the ACC football championship and is vastly undermanned. It will take a miracle for them to win, but many, including me, have gotten behind them pulling for the big underdog.

Here's how Duke can win. They should start about 5 members of the basketball team and 6 running backs. Ivy League Princeton has a unique offense where they start 3 proficient quarterbacks in the same back field. Nobody knows who will do what. What Duke should do is try to run every second off the clock before they snap the ball and then not even try to compete with the FSU line. Just toss the ball around like basketball players do and out finesse the FSU defense.

Edited to get the teams right.

It makes sense to me as I read it, RM. But, somehow, I don't think that's the way it will turn out.

LL, probably not, but it's

LL, probably not, but it's worth a try. Take as much time as you can before you snap the ball. That messes up the defensive rhythm. But every now and then snap the ball super fast. Dang, I'm really starting to believe this would work, heh.

Could Work

Yes, with the basketball team out on the field, after folks run around lateraling the ball back and forth, all the QB has to do is toss the ball really high. The six-foot nine center can grab it out of the stratosphere and make a touchdown.

Joke, but so trrue

I was trying to post on the old R&R. Here is where I got.

My Uncle Elias who lived in Chicago Heights, IL was a staunch Conservative, and voted straight Republican until the day he died in Chicago.

Since then he has voted Democrat.

Are you saying both teams (winner and loser) get paid the same amount?

Rant about slavery

"FOLLOWING THE example of Europe, one by one, countries in the Americas outlawed slavery in the second half of the 19th century, most without a war"

The fact that The US had to have a war to get rid of slavery just GOES TO SHOW EVERONE how intrenched slavery was in several states in The South!! This EXTREME hatred of giving up slavery unfortunately led to a terrible, bloody Civil War which, as you have pointed out, many other countries let slavery go WITHOUT a war!!

"some on here don't know me at all..."

Yes, seenitB4, that's the nature of these kinds of forums. I can't speak for "some," but as for myself, I certainly don't know you beyond what I'm able to glean about you from what you post.

One thing I notice is that you seem to take things personally a lot. This case about the "buy American" is a good example.

It's perfectly okay for you to have one view of the issue and "some other" (aka me) to have a totally different view. It doesn't mean I don't "like" you, it means I have a different opinion of the "buy American" program. There's nothing personal about it. It doesn't mean I think any less of you and my disagreement isn't intended as a personal attack as you, and Rebellious, seem to view it.

I'm perfectly willing to present my side of the case against it. I can/will do it without insults and hostility. I'm not really a "meanie," just someone who happens to disagree with you on the value of the "buy American" program.

Please feel free to present your case as to why it's so worthwhile and I'll present mine for the other side. No meanness, no animosity, no hard feelings. I'm sure you are a wonderful woman and our disagreement on this (or any other issue) doesn't make me think otherwise.

Would you please define "EXTREME hatred" and contrast it to just plain old, garden variety "hatred?" Is there such a thing as "mild hatred?"

Do you believe this is proof positive that we are a horrid, terrible Nation, that we should all hang our heads in shame, and that we should pay huge sums of money to black citizens as "reparations" for our "EXTREME hatred?"

The majority of the money goes back to the respective conference to be divided among the other members. The amount going to each team and the amount going back to the conference is different by conference.

Do you know if the winners and the losers of the bowl games are paid the same amount, or is there a little something extra for the winners?

Yes, of course, JTF. It's all about the sport itself and the lessons about life the participants learn from being part of a team.

both teams get the same

Yep, both teams get the same. As JTF says, every conference is a little different, but most get about 25% of the money plus expenses with the rest to the other teams in the conference. Realize some other teams in the conference are also going to bowls and have to share their money. So a team that goes to a big bowl also gets their share from the lesser bowl games with conference members.

Why Clemson vs. Ohio State is Attractive

They have played once before and it was the Gator Bowl. That game had an incident that changed life as was known in Ohio. Anyone remember? By the way Clemson won. I'm sure TV will talk up the incident before this game a lot.
