Larry Dodson, the vice president of the veterans group and the event’s founder, said five pick-up truck beds filled with donated toys were collected and $800 was raised to benefit Fort Gordon’s Christmas House.
“When we have a person serving in the military, the whole family makes a sacrifice, and I think sometimes the children make the biggest sacrifice of all,” he said.
In its first year, Dodson said 43 people attended and he is happy with the event’s growth. “I can’t tell you what a success it is and what a blessing it is that the people of our community show up to support these military families,” he said.
