HOW DID GEORGIA Regents University dictatorship get to invade Augusta State University so badly that they now plan to possibly “repurpose” the campus and move things closer to the Medical College of Georgia campus? Those historic buildings (Benet House, Payne Hall and Rains Hall) need to be maintained. As for the mills, I hope ghosts prevail there.

HATS OFF FOR the wonderful new Augusta resident who noticed the offensive quote on the Thackeray marker to report it. Let us have no more such insensitive public pieces in town.

THE AL STEWART/Dave Nachmanoff concert at the Columbia County Library theater was outstanding. I hope they will return again.

NO PERSON IN this country should be subject to something that has been repeatedly proved to be extremely detrimental to their general health. Secondhand smoke kills, and Breathe Easy Augusta should be receiving more support and recognition.

RANT TO THE Aiken County treasurer. My payment for my property taxes is going to a post office box in Charlotte, N.C. Why couldn’t you find someone in our own state or county to process our payment instead of outsourcing it to North Carolina?

KUDOS TO ALL of those who made the Stand Down for Homelessness resource fair at the Salvation Army Center of Hope a success. It was nice to see that nine agencies provided counseling, food and services at the fair. Let’s all do a little more to help those less fortunate than ourselves.

THANK YOU TO the family who paid the tab for me and my son at Logan’s on Nov. 2. God bless you!

THE GOVERNMENT can’t even set up a Web site; who thinks they can run the American health care system– a fifth of the economy? People thinking the government can run the health care system should scare you to death.

THEY SHOULD CHANGE the name of the Georgia-Florida game from “The World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party” to the “Thug Bowl.” Was it college football or the UFC? A complete and total lack of control and class for both teams.

WANT TO HEAR some real old songs? Turn to 98.7 on your radio. Was I surprised. Songs I have not heard in forever.

ON TV A MAN said that the world is controlled by big business and criminals. Money is not the root of all evil. Greed is the problem.

Now that is planning.

Family has already picked out her 1st 22 rifle.
Initial plans call for a balanced but conservative leaning education heavy in Civics.

"Repurpose" ASU Campus???

The idea to “repurpose” the ASU campus and move the college to the Frog Hollow med school area is one of the most foolish, impractical and expensive ideas to hit Augusta since Noble Jones established the first settlement here. We’ll be receiving our educations via particles beamed into our brains in 30 second bursts before we see ASU move to Frog Hollow.

Westlake?

Countyman, for goodness sakes, what if you listed Westlake alone as you list Summerville? Jones Creek?

Subdivision versus Place

Neither Westlake or Jones Creek are included among the many National Register Historic Register Places...

The town/city of Summerville was annexed into the city of Augusta in 1912.

In 1910 the entire population

In 1910 the entire population of Columbia County was 12,000. Westlake and the other neighborhoods didn't exist. Lulaville. What does that prove?

Ted Cruz Told Us

It appears many Democrat Congressmen are telling Obama to fix the Affordable Health Care Act in 72 hours or they'll join with Republicans in moving to change the law. Did Ted Cruz try to tell us or what?

But that is not to say that there aren't people who live in, oh say, Southeast Richmond County that have income equal to or greater than these.

There IS disposable income in Southeast Richmond County but businesses need to come south of Bobby Jones, preferably south of Tobacco Rd, to get it. Some of us will not frequent the few establishments left in South Augusta because of quality and safety. If you don't know what I mean, visit Applebee's on Windsor Spring and see how far down hill that place has gone. If you want a sit down meal in an enjoyable, clean setting you pretty much have to bypass South Augusta and go 15 miles in any direction.

And everything is cheaper in North Augusta.

Army Cyber Command

Man oh man, if we get this it's going to be like another SRS coming here. Keep in mind, this does not require cutting any kind of tax break deals, etc. From their website: "Army Cyber Command plans, coordinates, integrates, synchronizes, directs, and conducts network operations and defense of all Army networks; when directed, conducts cyberspace operations in support of full spectrum operations to ensure U.S./Allied freedom of action in cyberspace, and to deny the same to our adversaries. The total command strength will exceed 21,000 Soldiers and civilians and will be funded from within existing fiscal resources."

In the case of private business allowing it; 100% of the people exposed do so voluntarily.

That is because of the local patrons, not anything to do with the county (beyond farming out section 8 to that part of the county).

Facts

Why would anybody separate Westlake from anything? The neighborhood clearly represents normal suburban construction found all over the southeast.

Summerville is much older than many neighborhoods/areas in Georgia and wasn't even apart of the city of Augusta until 1912.

The owner of Augusta mall(General Growth) is the person responsible for separating Summerville and their following behind everybody else.

All of the real estate websites have Summerville by itself, and the place has it's own Wikipage.

Dichotomy.... Have you ever been to Sconyers, T's, Villa Europa, etc(enjoyable and clean)?

The only problem is both Mount Vintage and Bartram Trail represent specific neighborhoods.. The people who feel the need to respond need to contact the federal government, owner of Augusta mall, Wikipedia, etc since they all decided to separate Summerville like everybody else.

South Augusta= Major growth

I can't wait to hear the amount of spin dealing with this bit of information. The news is actually quite hilarious considering all the sarcastic remarks people respond with daily. My rumors were actually true.. The Chick Fil A is still not confirmed, but the businesses in the shopping center on Peach Orchard are being asked to leave...

1. Shopping center redevelopment(Post Office to Goodwill)
2. Chick Fil A on the existing SRP ATM location across from I-HOP
3. Five Guys coming soon and Dunkin Donuts/Firehouse Subs under construction.

''The weight loss center has been inside of a Peach Orchard Road plaza at 3108 Peach Orchard Road. The current owners of the shopping center are Hull, Storey, Gibson—based in Augusta and owner of dozens of malls and shopping centers in the Southeast. Plants said that all tenants received a letter a few months back to vacate their storefronts by Mid-October. PHC got an extension until November. She said many of the tenants have nowhere to go. The buzz is the entire center will be bulldozed to make way for a new concept.''

countynam asked...How does separating Summerville suit the purpose of the Augusta mall ownership? Because they and you were driving the point of the affluence of surrounding NEIGHBORHOODS....

Please explain why the federal government decided to separate Summerville then(National Register of Historic Places)? Do you think that Summerville was possibly on the National Register due to the historic nature of the the NEIGHBORHOOD? You know the relationship of the Bon Aire... Partridge Inn... The Arsenal... The era when The Hill was home to affluent snowbirds?

Facts

The Augusta mall trade area consist of 532,000 people and Richmond County was only estimated to have 202,000 residents in 2012.. The household incomes listed above in my previous comments were the three highest among the ENTIRE trade area(includes Aiken and Columbia counties).

The Augusta mall is a regional destination and draws people even from Columbia, SC...

The same people made numerous sarcastic comments when I mentioned the next Target is probably coming to South Augusta(Southwest Augusta was my 2nd choice). I had North Augusta in the mix until the Walmart shopping center was announced near the exit 5/I-20 corridor.

The next Target is more than likely coming to South Augusta because their creating a smaller version of the Augusta Exchange in West Augusta.

Laney Walker Also on National Historic Register

Gage Creed, of course you are right. All but one understands comparing specific neighborhoods to entire areas with numerous neighborhoods is not appropriate. Because a neighborhood used to be a town or is on a historic list does not make it less a neighborhood. The Laney Walker District is also on the National Historic Register, but I don't think using statistics from that neighborhood compared to say Westlake would be fair.

Chronicle Sutra

I picture Seenit getting her back cracked by a chiropractor who is being paid under Obamacare and his office is located in a Jacksonville neighborhood full of thugs. (I have no idea what that means, but I read this book once about how to remember things and they said to make up a story list or something like that.)

Anyway, the GA-FL game is a Southern tradition. Thugs to some are good, spirited players and fans just having a good time to others. I didn't get the comment.
