A portion of U.S. Highway 25 in North Augusta was closed Tuesday as crews continued to clean up an overturned fuel tanker.

U.S. 25 between Edna Street and Ascauga Lake Road was closed about 11:30 a.m., said North Augusta Public Safety Sgt. Maurice Ransom. The exit 22 ramp on Interstate 520 was also closed.

About 11:04 a.m., a fuel tanker truck overturned when the driver was turning left onto the Interstate 520 ramp near U.S. 25, Ransom said. An undetermined amount of fuel spilled from the overturned tanker, which had an 8,200-gallon capacity.

Cleanup took several hours as crews transferred fuel remaining in the overturned tanker into an empty tanker, Ransom said.

The driver was taken to Georgia Regents Medical Center with injuries that were not life-threatening.
