Gas prices continue to drop

  • Follow Metro

Gas prices are steadily dropping and are expected to be cheaper on Thanksgiving weekend than last year.

“Fuel prices are forecast to decrease further this week, bringing even lower prices as the holiday nears,” said Jessica Brady, an AAA spokeswoman. “Even with the decrease in price, the cost of gas is unlikely to have a major impact on people’s travel plans.”

The value of the dollar increased in late October and helped push oil prices below the $95 threshold. In addition, U.S. stockpiles rose an additional 4 million barrels.

Last Thanksgiving holiday, the national average for unleaded regular gas was $3.42.

The national average price of gasoline, at $3.18 on Monday, is the cheapest it has been since Dec. 26, 2012. AAA expects the national average price to drop as low as $3.10 before year’s end, and some consumers could see prices below $3.

South Carolina is already enjoying gas at nearly $3 per gallon, with its average sitting at $3.03. Georgia’s average is about 14 cents higher.
