Rants & Raves

Comments from readers:

RUNNING WITH THE bulls in Georgia appears to be drastically different from running with bulls in Spain. Our bulls look placid.

ATTORNEY GENERAL Eric Holder announced more federal government, intruding in state and local crime prevention, pretending the feds can do better at stopping school shootings than can locals. Of course, this is just another excuse for President Obama to grab more unconstitutional power for himself and his cohorts (both parties) in Washington. Stand by for martial law.

RANT TO EVERYONE afraid to say the real reason for astronomical health care costs; malpractice lawyers and most of the doctors are greedy beyond comprehension.

ONCE AGAIN, A teacher has proved that teachers will protect their students at any cost. We need to give them effective tools for defending their students.

IF AN INDIVIDUAL cannot afford health insurance in the first place, how is the individual going to pay the penalties?

FROM THE WHITE House Web site: “We encourage you to visit whitehouse.gov regularly to follow news and updates, and to learn more about President Obama’s commitment to moving our Nation forward.” Obviously, Obama is directionally challenged.

RANT TO NIKKI HALEY for pushing I-73. She needs to get out on South Carolina’s existing interstates and see how much repair is needed there. They are the worst in the continental U.S.

DOCTORS FROM CHINA are getting a “first-hand look at American medicine” at GRU. Ho ho! Just in time for Obamacare. That’s one way to sink China.

NOW IT’S THE STATE of Missouri that’s worried that death penalty executions might hurt the convicted murderer, so they delay them until they can find the right poison. This is turning into a bizarre joke.

IT IS A FALLACY to state that the Augusta Commission is considering renovating downtown. All they are doing is considering renovating an infinitesimally small, insignificant portion of downtown. Of the 600-plus acres they are designating a slum, they are only going to renovate 3-plus acres. That is about one half of 1 percent of downtown.

needs to get out on South Carolina’s existing interstates...

I would say the same for the GA-DOT crews on I-20 after you pass Thomson headed West.

There are potholes big and deep enough to shallow a Motorcycle front tire all along between Mile marker 171 to 140-.

Remember when a civilization is in decline
the 1st thing is ever increasing taxes.
followed increasing number of the poor living off the government.
and then the roads & Infrastructure.

Want to know what follows roads?

Can't Say, Get Your Butt Going These Days?

So pro football players can’t be berated when they are not doing well? Sports are off limits for criticizing the athletes? Boxers?

Cornerman tells boxer, “Excuse me Mr. Washington, but your opponent is displaying a superior pugilistic technique and beating you badly. Perhaps you could display more enthusiasm, Sir?”

Last rant/rave... I'm assuming you submitted this before the commission voted the other day.. Also, they don't need to renovate all of the seven properties when the private sector can take advantage of the tax breaks. The GGHF property should have been included, but they can add the property when GRU is ready to move forward.

Old paths

Just call me old fashioned...., but I understand times do change. Doesn't hurt to reminisce though.

"I liked the old paths, when
Moms were at home.
Dads were at work.
Brothers went into the Army, or took up a trade.
And sisters got married BEFORE having children!

Crime did not pay;
Hard work did;
And people knew the difference.

Moms could cook;
Dads would work;
Children would behave.

Husbands were loving;
Wives were supportive;
And children were polite.

Women wore the jewelry;
And Men wore the pants.

Women looked like ladies;
Men looked like gentlemen;
And children looked decent.

People loved the truth,
And hated a lie.

They came to church to get IN,
Not to get OUT!

Hymns sounded Godly;
Sermons sounded helpful;
Rejoicing sounded normal;
And crying sounded sincere.

Cursing was wicked;
Drugs were for illness.

The flag was honored; America was beautiful;
And God was welcome!

We read the Bible in public;
Prayed in school;
And preached from house to house.

To be called an American was worth dying for;
To be called an American was worth living for;
To be called a traitor was a shame!

I still like the old paths the best!"

Gimme a &^%* break! A 300lb football player who can bench press 4 cheerleaders is boo-hooing about bullying? OMG!!!!!! What have we come too? Just stand up dude and be a man!!

I fully understand and support the focus on bullying among minors; I endured a little myself; but gee whiz! Grown, full of testosterone men whining about someone hazing them....... What a feline!

I-73 Ends Hopes of I-3

SC funding I-73 to Myrtle Beach will put an end to any hopes we had of I-3 going through Augusta into SC up to Greenville. Charlie Norwood had it on the list of highways, but Paul Broun took it off to appease North Georgia residents who didn't want an interstate coming through. A route via SC was our hope. No I-3 in our lifetime. There's only so much money.

In order to do that you have to maintain what you have. Keep it a shining example of what you want in that area, not let it become overgrown, falling apart and crime ridden. You want to make downtown like other cities that have rivers through them, then go and take a look. I was in San Antonio for Feista week. No crime in the downtown area, it was clean, very well maintained and all done in a low key manner. Not the in your face dayglo that Sheriff Tree has done. Not in the crying and money begging that maintenance has done. Not in the studies that the Commission has done.

I-3 & Ga towns

about this RM...

but Paul Broun took it off to appease North Georgia residents who didn't want an interstate coming through

I-3 would have decimated the small quaint Ga towns in N Ga.....they did not want a huge wound through the middle of a small community that is laden with history & ole time stores....

Progress is not always needed or even desired.....they could have tweaked the plan & passed some ole towns but they didn't ....

Hiawassee is an Indian name with Indian history.....the water is clear & pristine...the fish are healthy & can be eaten....the air is fresh & divine....the folks are trust worthy & great neighbors.....at one time I marveled at the fact the business owners left valuable goods around their stores at night....they did not have to lock it up......amazing isn't it.....most folks don't have to lock their doors at night......when someone needs help, they give it....it reminds me of Augusta in the years past..........why would anyone want to change THAT!!

"IF AN INDIVIDUAL cannot

"IF AN INDIVIDUAL cannot afford health insurance in the first place, how is the individual going to pay the penalties?"

That is why the majority (>85%) of the Obamascare enrollees are for Medicaid and are not paying one cent for their new coverage.

Grooo

Countyman posted:

The GGHF property should have been included [in the slum designation], but they can add the property when GRU is ready to move forward.

Grooo does not need urban redevelopment bonds to develop the golf hall of fame property. The Georgia Board of Regents is rolling in cash. The MCG Foundation is sitting on a mountain of cash. Grooo can develop the property whenever it wants with cash on hand.

Riverman .... points to another reason our family is moving to
North East Ga.

They tend to be very conservative about protecting their way of life.

North From Augusta.

I'd like to see a north bound interstate through Augusta. If you need to go north from here it is almost one of those "you can't get there from here....you have to go someplace else and start" situations.

I-3

No reason we couldn't have a connection from Savannah to Augusta to Greenville to I 26 south of Asheville, NC. That is dang near a straight shot from Savannah to Asheville; and not much farther to Knoxville than a route through the N. Ga mountains.

I-3 is needed

It's interesting how a vocal minority can stop much needed progress. The notion that these small towns in north Georgia are going to evaporate because of a four lane controlled access highway are absolutely ridiculous. An interstate highway between Knoxville, Augusta, and Savannah is needed and the economic benefits/better infrastructure far outweigh the cons, but some are stuck are in their ways and Broun is spineless enough to give in to them...just my two cents though.

I think Knoxville is better off not being connected to Augusta via interstate highway.
