Rabid raccoon reported in Aiken

A raccoon captured Wednesday in the area of Cherry Hills Drive in Aiken has tested positive for rabies, according to a statement for the Aiken Department of Public Safety.

The South Carolina DHEC Web site has information on rabies for those who might have come in contact with this animal or have questions in general, the police agency said. It is the fifth cases of rabies in Aiken this year.
