The speed limit on part of the freeway that circles Atlanta will be increased to 65 mph.

The limit will be raised today on the southern portion of the Interstate 285 loop. That section is from Interstate 20 west to I-20 east.

CBS Atlanta reports that signs with the new posted speed limit, covered in black plastic, were expected to be unveiled around noon.

Speed limits on interstates and probably on most all roads

Shoulf be deemed safe by study of the 85th percentile of the speeds driven there.

It's about time

The 55 mph speed limit was incredibly ridiculous and unsafe. A few years ago, some college kids drove 4 abreast down 285 doing 55 mph and caused a huge rolling traffic jam. People were passing them on the shoulder, and I am amazed the students didn't get killed.

More like 75?

Last time I was there, I drove 85 and still couldn't keep up with traffic.

Speed hike???

Has the writer ever even been on I-285? You'd have to cut the average speed by 20 mph to reach the "new" limit.
