Rants & Raves

  • Follow Metro

WE NEED TO take away the rotten law that kept paying the inept congressmen “working” during any shutdowns. We also need to repeal giving anyone a lifetime health or retirement payout unless they are worth serving a consecutive 10 years minimum. That’s what private and state businesses have to do.

RAVES TO the sheriff’s office for all those extra speeding tickets. I’m so glad that more officers were put on those traffic beats. We see how many unfortunately illegal drivers there are besides those who die or get seriously injured to the point of paralysis or brain death. Keep ticketing the people, and maybe we can get those folks to attend enough rehab driving classes so that we have fewer accidents to deal with.

RAVE FOR the giant rummage sale behind Village Deli on Oct. 26 to raise money for animal rescue work.

I SEE ALL the rants about stopping congressmen’s pay. We all know that will never happen. Hold your rants until Election Day. Then everybody who cares to vote will be able to express their approval/disapproval. If people don’t vote or make the wrong choices, then idiots will be elected and all our problems will just come back again.

RAVE TO ALL those who find something good to rave about. The world needs a lot less ranting (aka whining).

RAVE TO Augusta Mall for holding a fall fashion show featuring breast cancer survivors. It was a great show and a great community event supporting breast cancer awareness.

ANOTHER RANT FOR the thousands of people who do not know how to drive. The lines painted on the road have meanings. Double yellow means do not pass. A solid white line means do not switch lanes. Please learn the rules of the road.

THE RESIDENTS of River Glen Apartments should expect the new owner to take care of all the problems that exist; that’s the owner's responsibility. In addition to taking care of the maintenance items, the new owner has said he would also put security guards on site. It’s a bit of a stretch, however, to expect them to add a basketball court and a computer room for the older kids, as suggested by Tara Freeman. The parents need to take on the responsibility for looking after their own kids.

A few Raves today

Waffle House Hwy 56 - Rave to Ms. Jo and the staff being trained. Great Meal (work on the watered down OJ) .

Metro-Clinic next to Barneys Pharmacy - for the Fast and to the point medical service.

Doctors Hospital Radiology Dept personnel for being the nicest pair of Rad-Techs I have ever met. Cool, clam, yet very professional without being stuffy.

Atlanta Bread Company staff - great pleasing people that understand service and making it right the 1st time. Got you with the request of a Left Handed Spoon.

The Shooters staff for digging for some hard to find reloading supplies and having them at a fair / honest price. (hint they need a few Sweet Water Gun Safes on the floor CG) .

Chick-Fil-la Washington Rd staff - we had a great time talking to the Banana.

Good luck!!!!

If certain people feel creating a new city provides the best opportunity then good luck.. There's plenty of room for growth on Tobacco rd and south of Tobacco along Peach Orchard, Mike Padgett, and Deans Bridge. Maybe the Gracewood, Bennock Mill, and Mcbean areas can become their own distinct areas of the county. The only irony is the boundaries of the new city don't include the entire area... Why can't of all the residents join? Why is Tobacco rd the starting line?

My comments from yesterday were in relation to the majority of the residents in the new cities having mostly the same type of jobs, political views, etc in North Fulton. The majority of the white residents who live in Richmond County and voted for president Obama don't live in the rural parts of South Augusta. The black people who live on/off Tobacco rd voted for president Obama. The demographics of each city back up my comments from yesterday...
Milton 77%
Alpharetta 70%
Sandy Springs 65%
Johns Creek 64%

Augusta mall=southeast regional destination

#6.. The Augusta mall(Micheal Kors opened recently & the H&M is under construction) is the most upscale mall outside of metro Atlanta in the state, and nicer than any mall located in the state of South Carolina. Metro Atlanta consist of more than 5 million residents, but only two of the malls located in the metro are clearly more upscale(Lenox & Phipps)..

The city needs to build a new urban park near the Augusta Exchange and let multiple developers build around the green space. The Augusta Exchange area of West Augusta must quickly become the first edge city, and have mid rises/high rises similar to the city of Sandy Springs. Let the private sector create another live, work, and play development at Furys Ferry/Riverwatch to continue the growth of North Richmond(Cabela's, movie theater, & Costco at Alexander/Riverwatch) like the city of Alpharetta.

South Augusta Secession Vote

It is interesting that Countyman believes blacks in South Augusta will vote to keep the consolidated city-county government if a referendum to break away is held. I wonder why he thinks black folks in South Augusta would vote along racial lines on the matter?

He mentioned the way people voted for Obama. So he feels this is a Democrat vs Republican vote with people lined up along racial lines? I would imagine black folks in South Augusta have the same concerns about ARC government and a vote would have little to do with parties or race. Maybe I'm wrong and Countyman knows his people better?

West Augusta Break Away?

It's also interesting that the discussion has not mentioned a break away by West August yet. It seems the forces there with its growth and proximity to Columbia County would be at work to have their own government sans downtown. With Costco, Cabela's and the other retail they bring in lots of tax revenue.

Some how & some way

Ctyman thinks he has some say so in the plan to pull away from downtown...naaah...only home owners in the south side will say what they want to do there......sooo, stop getting obsessed with this idea.

Progress happens & you will just have to live with the after math., so sit back & watch the show.

paying the inept congressmen

NO, there should be a 3 term limit for any seat in Congress! No family member filling the seat if you die. No moving to a different district to run again. 3 terms period. No retirement and no insurance. You get what you had coming before you ran and you keep it. No free bennies. I have not gotten an answer for how much each Congress persons staff is paid. Since this is paid for with our taxes we have a Right to Know...

We give you a hard time but it's nice to have someone accentuate the positive. Could you also put some of that enthusiasm into pointing out the everyday things that need to be done? Like Riverwalk, how long before it gets the maintenance that should have been happening all along, cleaning up the blighted areas, responsibility for overpayment of long gone contractors, etc, etc.....

Riverwalk

During a time in my life I used to go to Riverwalk with dates on Sundays, take my children there to play. I'd love to do that with my grandchildren, but don't feel that it's safe, from a security standpoint or a maintenance standpoint. Yes, the downtown area and Riverwalk could be a great destination if it is maintained, secure and with the right marketing.

The commissioners have to do

The commissioners have to do a $500,000 study to see how much the maintenance will cost first. Then make sure one of their family members is in place to get the over-priced bid. Then the work won't be done correctly and they will have to do the whole process over again.

" I wonder why he thinks black folks in South Augusta....

I wonder why he thinks black folks in across the USA voted along racial lines in the last couple of Presidential elections?

Here's my guess.....people tend to vote for candidates and issues they believe will benefit THEM the most. That's true for blacks, whites, indians, orientals, young, old, you name it.

harley_52 - Time at Shooters

The wife and I were there around 4:10pm
We purchased bullet casings, replacement dies
along with Large Rifle and Pistol primers.
We already had enough 231 and 4380.

We are teaching the grandson (now 8 y/o) how to reload this weekend. We could not teach him until he learned and understood how to read a digital caliper and digital scale constantly.

Having been raise in what was sticks for the south side in the 50-70's.

I've been putting together a book of stories South Side

If you are interested, I'll send you a chapter sample draft.

SBi4 - when we wanted somethings as kids

We'd be at JM Fields in Southgate and see a toy we wanted.
Even as a Kid we start dividing 2 into the purchase price.
That was how many coke bottles we had to pick up for the deposits
to purchase it.

I really think the did a disservice to the kids growing up and increased the road litter today went they started the idea of
NO Deposit NO Return bottles.

DANGEROUS RANT TO Atlanta Lamborghini dealer Ed Bolian

RANT
He just finished a Cannon Ball Run New York City to Los Angeles thats in 28 hours 50 minutes. Averaging 98mph in car he spent months fitting with gadgets to keep eye out for police

Maybe his insurance company will yank his coverage upon reading the news. Maybe the DMV will pull his and his teams license if we are lucky.

"When a chicken is raised in a poor family....

....does the chicken know it is poor?"

The chicken is aware some other chickens have a little more than he/she does, but it's not a big deal. It's life.

Then a democrat comes along and tells the chicken the only reason it's poor is because wascally wepublicans have stolen all its grain and left it broke an hungry because they're evil and rich and because the evil rich hate chickens. The chicken is promised unlimited grain and a new coop if it will promise to vote democrat every election and help destroy the wepublicans in all their efforts to improve life for everybody, including the chickens.
