DEAR BUS DRIVERS: No one in the Richmond County School System has received a pay raise since Obama took office. Y’all need to go to D.C. to protest.
I AM SURE THAT the Richmond County Board of Elections’ new precinct plan that would mean a change of polling location for about 13,000 voters will not be popular. I can see the out-of-towners raising all sorts of reasons why the plan is unfair and will restrict the residents from voting. Let’s move on, Augusta, and adopt the plan.
I UNDERSTAND the need for fingerprinting your employees, but I would like to know why the Richmond County Board of Education is charging its employees. Where is the money going?
I AGREE THAT county employees deserve a bonus, but we can’t spend money we don’t have. City Administrator Fred Russell’s budget proposal shows an $8.5 million deficit, but includes giving $1500 bonuses to all employees. What is up with that? Budgets must start by paying the items that must be paid, and if there is money left after that, the things people want must be prioritized, with a stopping point when the money runs out. Stop spending money that isn’t there. Residents and small businesses must operate within this simple idea. Why is it so difficult for government entities to do this?
I APPLAUD the new law that will allow more children to undergo rehabilitation and remediation rather than face time in youth detention centers. Let’s use this law with a degree of caution, though, because we don’t want thugs and hoodlums freely roaming our streets when they should be behind bars.
I HOPE IT’S not too late when we wake up and realize that our government – all three branches – does not care about anything but itself. Forget for a second who is in charge; do you really feel like you or the country or the Constitution is in good hands? The government is getting more tax income than ever and spending even more – a trillion dollars more each of the past five years – and this is all we have to show for it? Our power-crazed representatives are living the high life and selling out to the highest bidder while the poverty and unemployment rates are soaring. Meanwhile, we call one another names and stand in line for the next handout.
I REALLY was disappointed to see that Malala Yousafzai did not get the Nobel Peace Prize. If anyone deserved it, she did. I don’t think that organizations should get this prize.
