Rants & Raves

  • Follow Metro

THIS IS A RANT to all the bad drivers of Augusta. I would list everything you are doing wrong, but the fact that you think merge means speed up and run people off the road and you don’t understand what a speed limit is leads me to believe you probably don’t read the newspaper anyway.

IN THIS POLITICALLY correct world of ours, people are not taking identity theft as seriously as they should. The government should aggressively pursue those people and prosecute them as if they had robbed thousands of banks. Lock them up for life.

HERE’S A POINT OF civility that should be exhibited more often: How about young people leaving front seats on the buses for the elderly and folks with disabilities? That is, go ahead and sit farther back, or at least get up and leave the foremost front seats upon arrival of an elderly person.

ONE WAY THE Color Run was not fun for folks were the owners and workers at restaurants where such dirty people insisted on sitting on the chairs or messing up the bathrooms. A woman at least somehow got colors smeared all over the toilet seat, the area below the toilet seat and all over the rim of the sink.

RANT CONCERNING THE decision of county officials to exclude the county pickup of tires. Most streets in my neighborhood have tires that have been on the curb since the new collection has started. Is there a plan or place that property owners can take tires for recycling?

THE SALVATION ARMY is now accepting applications for Christmas assistance; that is, Christmas gifts for children. Included in the documents that applicants have to supply is a photo ID. I wonder whether there will there be a big fuss made of the requirement of a photo ID in this situation? If a photo ID is required for handouts, why isn’t it a requirement to vote?

THE DEREK DOOLEY family is not as happy about their absence from University of Tennessee as the Volunteer faithful. We knew it was a mistake when he was hired – no winning record. All I can say about Derek Dooley is good riddance and the same goes for Lane Kiffin. I hope it’s a lesson well-learned.

FUTURE SECTION 8 housing being built under the disguise of luxury apartments is why Bass Pro Shops changed their minds. I am not a Ron Cross fan and have voted against him every time he has run for office. But he is dead right on the Bass Pro Shop deal. I agree with his actions and comments.

Why are his comments more imp

You said..
I do respect the comments from Dichotomy, but how are they any more important than my own.

Because the man owns land/property & has been paying taxes a long time in Richmond county...not rent...owns.
Many on here that you chastise have paid taxes in Richmond county also....for many years...each county has positives & negatives.....so try to see both.

Augusta Mall

Agree completely with CBBP. We don't go there anymore even though it used to be our first stop. It doesn't seem safe and I told my whole family that I would prefer they not go there for their own safety. We go a little farther to avoid having to look over our shoulders all the time just to shop around.

Tire Update

Ranter #5 is in luck! Augusta Solid Waste is now advertising (radio & newspapers) a recycling event where Richmond County residents may bring their scrap tires and electronics for recycling at no charge. They do it once a month, and this month is October 19 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Carrie Mays Family Life Center, located at 1014 11th Avenue.

Each Richmond County household can bring up to five tires. You must bring proof of residence.

That's the biggest problem I have with his posts

He is always eager to spend someone else's tax dollars downtown...where he lives but doesn't pay property taxes...

Facts vs opinions

Seenitb4... I hate to burst your little bubble, but people can rent and own properties at the same time. This country is so wonderful that I can own property and I don't even have to live in the home.

When do you ever bring up the positives of Richmond County? Why are you telling me to look at the positives of both when you don't yourself?

Many people choose to rent until they find exactly what their looking for.

Gnip Gnop... Please stick to the facts and not your personal opinions. Let's be honest about the situation, because you don't know me personally and have no idea if I pay property taxes or not.

address the negatives for a change

dichotomy is a Richmond county resident....he has blasted the commish & the way his taxes are misused...why not give him some info--help--understanding about HIS problems??
You choose to ignore the real problems of the residents in the county..they could give a rats behind about 5 Guys...or 3 Guys...they want something to show for their TAX DOLLAR...

Pie in the sky posts don't do a thing for them...address that.

Twice as important?

I pay property tax on two homes in Richmond County. Selling one (used as a rental until we had thousands in damage from low-lifes) now and will be selling the other (where we currently live) as soon as my wife is ready to move out of the county (and possibly the country). Looking at all the For Sale signs tells me we're not alone.

As said earlier, smoke that.

You will soon have more residents s Augusta.

Authority Director of Resident Services Buddy Oldfield said of 355 families that lived at Cherry Tree, 311 remained Thursday, but that could change rapidly as the authority distributes 153 more vouchers by the end of the week.
