Davidson Fine Arts Magnet School wins awards at theater competition

John S. Davidson Fine Arts Magnet School’s theater department won several awards at the Georgia Theatre Conference for its one-act play Mother Hicks.

The award for best director was given to Betty Walpert; best actress to Marianna Hagler for her role as Mother Hicks; best supporting actor to Brandon Mitchell for his role as Father of Girl; and all-star cast to Diamond Mitchell, Toni Gentry and Jason Bevill. The school also won best set, best tech and second place for overall technical challenge.

The theater competition was last weekend in Kingsland, Ga.. Davidson students will compete in the Region 3AA one-act competition on Saturday at Harlem High School.
