A Waynesboro man was found dead inside of a burning home early Sunday.

Andrew Lenair Sursson, 33, of Savannah Avenue, likely died from smoke inhalation, Burke County Coroner Susan Salemi said. An autopsy is scheduled in Atlanta on Tuesday

According to Deputy Chief Robert H. Parrish III of the Waynesboro Fire Department, firefighters rushed to a home on Savannah Avenue about 4:30 a.m. and found heavy fire and smoke coming from the kitchen and living room.

“After the fire was knocked down, a primary search was conducted and a deceased male was found in a bedroom,” an e-mail stated.

Salemi said the duplex, which had no smoke dectectors, was occupied by three other people who escaped without bodily injury.

Parrish said there is nothing to indicate foul play.
