Rants & Raves

Comments from readers:

I LOVED THE centenarians story. Before I read that article, I didn’t want to live past 75. Seeing these lovely people makes me look forward to living to at least 100. Thanks again.

STAR WARS DAY will be held at library? What do science fiction movies have to do with books?

RANT TO THE BAND director and the Lakeside High School marching band for their rudeness during the football game against Westside. This was not battle of the bands, yet you insisted on playing while Westside’s band was playing. Where are your manners? Next time, please take turns playing so everyone can enjoy both bands.

MAYBE THE GOP will elect some ringleaders in 2014 to control the circus clowns in their party now; what a joke.

AS EXPECTED, BILL Clinton is back to his lying ways. This time, he’s lying about “Obamacare.” Sadly, the liberal news media continued their support of the lies. Fifty-three percent of Americans do not support Obamacare while 42 percent do. A full 26 percent of Americans strongly oppose it, and only 12 percent strongly support it. If the figures were reversed, this would be touted as overwhelming support. I miss the days when news outlets really reported the news.

PEOPLE COMPLAIN about the Augusta Commission members spending money on themselves, but nothing happens. Perhaps one of The Chronicle reporters should investigate the laws that allow this to happen. I can support paying a salary for the hours they spend in governing our city, but what allows them to give themselves pensions, health insurance, cars, gas, cellphones, trips, and who knows what else?

THE SOUTH’S OLDEST newspaper should know how to fold a newspaper.

REMEMBER THE GOOD old days? The Hilltop Drive-In and Sno-Cap were the hangouts. Would it be possible for the people of North Augusta to have a drive-in or walk-in theater?

RANT TO THOSE retail stores that are not friendly to the handicapped and scooters. Your aisles are so jammed up.

RANT FOR RICHMOND County garbage service. If we are all paying the same taxes, I want to know how the person on my street has four garbage cans and one recycle can. He said he doesn’t pay extra. Why can’t I get three more cans?

Old days

"REMEMBER THE GOOD old days? The Hilltop Drive-In and Sno-Cap were the hangouts. Would it be possible for the people of North Augusta to have a drive-in or walk-in theater?" Don't forget The Lamppost, The Heidelberg, and Papa Joes. They were great hangouts as well.

If it wasn't open early enough in the afternoon, we just climbed over the chain link gate in the back and served ourselves. Left the empties on the table and Ken counted them when he "opened'. The honor system worked well in '69 and '70.
LarFran's was the choice if you had a "dinner date". Hamburger all the way and a Blue Ribbon, on the curb!

Well we still got the Sno-Cap. The Hill-top is long gone, but we do have the Big-Mo in Monetta! And a deal it is! Two new movies for the price of one!

Yep, it's pretty bad when you have to rely on a Clinton!

You can pretty much be assured that anything the Clintons say, are very questionable!

Major growth=Harrisburg, Richmond County, metro Augusta

The plans for the Mills Campus in Harrisburg will become reality.. The local public is finally allowed to know GRU fully supports the idea. The proximity to the Augusta Canal/CBD/Medical District is the real major advantage. The existing Kroc Center, new Walmart market center, demolishing or renovation of the MCG foundation Kroger shopping center property, new Cookout restaurant, empty space for businesses on Broad street, etc also makes Harrisburg very attractive in terms of gentrification/revitalization.

The Cultural campus in the CBD is now the icing on the cake, and I can't wait to hear the final plans for the 17 acre GGHF site.

On the Lakeside band

On the Lakeside band director...get used to it. He's known for being inconsiderate. As far as their band...they're just kids, and they follow the example put forth by their director.

I assume Mr Tau is no longer

I assume Mr Tau is no longer at Lakeside. If he is there has been a HUGE change since my daughters where in the band. Again I am assuming the ranter is speaking of the half time show. If not, well, that's football.

Rant about Obamacare

"This time, he’s lying about “Obamacare.” Sadly, the liberal news media continued their support of the lies. Fifty-three percent of Americans do not support Obamacare while 42 percent do."

I like Obamacare because it will allow for more people to buy health insurance, AND because it gives U.S. something to argue and divide U.S. even further!! Obamacare IS THE LAW!! Let us make the best of it!!

Have you been listening to MSNBC lately? Even they are coming out against ACA. Unions are against it. The majority of people will pay more than on the open market. Glad you are happy with it.

Next subject... The Emperor is fond of saying "the Republicans won't negotiate" followed immediately by "ACA is not negotiable, welfare is not negotiable...." There have been 9 bills sent to the Senate from the House that would keep the government open. Reid won't bring them to the floor... who refuses to negotiate?

Since you have already said you are on govt assistance, the ACA won't affect you, but think of the millions struggling w/o asst then maybe you can understand why the majority is against it.

ICELAND went bankrupt and they survived. Russia and Japan fried a nuclear plant a they survived. South Africa had a white minority government and they survived. Korea had a paranoid schizophrenic and they survived. France has had total surrenders at least six times and they survived.

What we need in life

Life is the sum of experiences that we encounter as we go through life. Day to day struggles and triumphs are experienced by all of the world's creatures. As human beings, when we encounter a challenge, we have freedom to choose how to react. Every decision that we make leads us down a different road. We will never come to exactly the same crossroads. Every decision the we make has significance. The tiniest choice that we make reverberates throughout the entire universe.

We need to understand that we go down different roads in life...& thank goodness for the difference..imho

Sometimes you see articles and comments that make you say that’s what I’ve been talking about and make you think of other things. Today a few things caught my attention. I see the story about GRU losing students. That’s the problem with the mills campus idea for student housing. There are not enough students. I mean you could use the mills for other things, but you won’t have enough students to build housing there.

Then there’s the rant about Star Wars in the library. I agree. I believe librarians now try to justify their existence with such tripe. Libraries should go online only where they could serve many more people at a fraction of the cost. You can keep the library buildings for community centers and places to play StarWars.

Then this talk of movie theaters has me thinking. It’s highly unlikely a regular movie theater, open to the public, will ever open in downtown Augusta again due to the demographics. But one could be part of Project Jackson. A theater would fit with that project and North Augusta. It would be a way to once again go to the movies in town…sort of. Right across the river anyway.

Just When You Thought...

...the Obama Administration had sunk to the lowest depths of disgusting behavior possible by closing National Parks, monuments, and museums, the go a giant step lower.

Yesterday they refused to pay transportation costs to Dover Delaware for the families of four American soldiers and one American Marine killed in Afghanistan as their bodies arrived for processing. Also, they announced no money was available to pay "death gratuities" to the families of these fallen heroes.

Absolutely disgusting.

Fortunately, private citizens are stepping in to pay the transportation costs as Congress tries to FORCE the Obama Administration to regain their senses.
