Ruth Mead (left) and Susan Birt enjoyed the beautiful fall weather by taking a walk along the boardwalk at Phinizy Swamp Nature Park in south Augusta on Tuesday morning.

“It’ll probably be a little dry,” said Georgia climatologist Bill Murphey.

October and November are normally drier than the summer months that precede it.

This past summer, Augusta got drenched in an unusually high amount of rainfall. Since January, Augusta has received 46.44 inches of rain, which is more than 12 inches higher than normal.

Murphey said the three-month forecast model, which extends into the first week of January, calls for an equal chance of above, below and normal temperatures and an equal chance of above, below and normal rainfall.

“For the near-term and midrange up to 10 days, I would expect temps to be pretty much seasonal and mostly dry fall-like conditions,” he said.

The ormal average high temperature for October is 78 degrees, and the low temperature is 51 degrees. In November, the normal average high is 69 degrees and the low is 41.

High temperatures for the next week will fall in the mid-80s, only slightly higher than the normal average. Forecasters predict sunny skies until Sunday; then there’s a 30 percent chance for showers and thunderstorms.
