Rants & Raves

  • Follow Metro

I THINK I WILL GO down to the slum area tomorrow and pay $2.04 for a cup of coffee.

JUST BECAUSE the newspaper printed it in black and white and your picture and charges are in the Jail Report makes you guilty. You have to prove you’re not guilty but you have already been convicted and tried in the local news media and Jail Report. Even if you know you are not guilty and cannot afford to buy a lawyer, the public defender’s office will not do their job to prove your innocence. They want you to plead guilty. Their job is done; they get paid regardless of your defense.

THE CARTOON Candorville is too left-wing political to be on the cartoon page, if not dropped entirely. Like Doonesbury it should be moved to the editorial page or the trash can!

IF OBAMA HAD A CITY it would look like Detroit or Augusta.

I DON’T GET where you think freeloaders will get it worse than Third World countries. As far as I can see, they get the best. They run to soup kitchens for free meals, they can get access to free clothing and foods and other giveaways at various places and some get free living quarters in local shelters. They have better clothes with no holes than I do, some even manage to beg
monies off of too-generous people and then
brag about having the cash to buy “goodies” they can’t find for free. That is way better than Third World.

RAVE FOR THE staff at the tag office on Lumpkin Road. They are indeed friendly and efficient. Even waiting in a long line, each customer was greeted with a cheerful smile and friendly, helpful demeanor.

WE THE PEOPLE of Augusta-Richmond County have spoken about the way our county government operates. We must make fundamental changes to the number of commissioners as well as the job description of the mayor. Though they all say they are concerned for Augusta, they are too concerned with their own districts instead of looking at the big picture. Though they say it is not, every issue comes down to black vs. white. Go color blind. Get back to the basics of honesty, integrity, respect, character and being thrifty. Scout Law would be a good guide.

PLEASE HELP TO END slavery. It is estimated that between 100,000 and 300,000 children are trafficked for sex each year in the United States. The average age is between the ages of 12 and 14. No market can survive without demand. If men stop buying it, human trafficking will end.

Harley said, "I have the same right to express my opinion around here as does everybody else..."

Harley, are you absolutely right. I would support you for Mayor, seriously, but that doesn't mean you are right HERE. Designations of certain areas is a media thing that most follow. The media has NEVER designated any area as North Richmond County. Notice the capital "North." It is enlightening, even if wrong, that CM now says it's the area north of Riverwatch. Do you agree with that? Only north of Riverwatch even though I would say that area is actually more EAST than north of Riverwatch?

I will whine and complain all I want

I earned that right as a tax payer! To look at his posts and see how he wants my tax dollars used downtown is a insult to me and despite what you say I have seen you defend him....a lot. I applaud his tenacity but his constant drivel in the face of tax payers that get screwed royally is asinine and even more so coming from someone that rents! It is your right to defend...or say whatever you want but you are wrong when you say I bash Augusta. I bash the tax system, the cronyism and the rantings of someone that loves to talk about spending my tax dollars on stuff downtown that doesn't benefit the majority of tax payers. I love Augusta and I always will. My aunt was the first woman to run for mayor of Augusta and served the city council for years...me and my family have earned the right to complain!

First, what is R&R? It isn't Rants & Raves is it? THIS WOULD have been a place that I would not have been afraid to meet you people!! WHAT, NO anynimoty(spl)?? That's almost unthinkable!!

Hate I Missed It

"To everyone who came to the commenter meeting and Chronicle tour Saturday, I had a good time talking to all of you. I hope we can do it again soon"

I had previously scheduled to host a hundred of my close friends for a pig roast that day. Still recuperating. Catch you-ens next time.

"Well now....we do post in code on here....only a few know that code....coldbeer knows it...tricky to learn too! :)"

Yea, I am too guilty of this too, BUT I don't try to hide my age AND WORSE YET my gender!! Some people, like me, might see this as gone just a little bit too far to hid one's identity!!

You can go by your AC name. Most of us know each other's real names. After all, we have known each other for years.

R&R = Rants and Raves.

Thanks for the info. Still think it should be a better way to let Bizkit, me, and others know about it.

Have a good evening!

Unless there is some written, published, accepted naming convention for the various areas of ARC, then I'd say when Countyman says "North Richmond County" and then goes on to describe what he means by "North Richmond County" he is defining his term quite adequately. If you don't want to call the area north of Riverwatch "North Richmond County" you don't have to. You can call it Timbuktu if you want, but he has the right to call it whatever he chooses when he's defining the term. I mean unless there's some law saying he can't.

I really don't understand the controversy and all the apparent hard feelings about it, but hey....I never have understood it.

Thanks for the Mayor comment, but that will never happen.

"I will whine and complain all I want....

No problem.

If you feel you've accomplished something by whining and complaining, then by all means, whine and complain. I've never found it to be particularly productive, but that's just me.

And you're right about earning that right by being an ARC taxpayer. I totally, 100% agree that you have earned that right.

Some of the others who join you in your whining and complaining haven't.

Personally, I wouldn't dream of bashing somebody elses' place of residence if I didn't live (and pay taxes there) any more than I'd dream of bashing somebody elses' family.

It just doesn't seem right.

When I learn of the next

When I learn of the next meeting of posters, I will mention it one time a day on R&R. It is too bad that some did not show up, because of not knowing about it. Maybe there will be another one real soon. Even though I am a liberal, I was made welcome and treated well. If you don't want to use your real names, that is ok. countyman will you be at the next one? Come one now! You don't have to tell us your real name.

The invite was posted numerous times in comments

What better way to let everyone know, especially the ones who are commenting regularly?

"Meet at the 8th St. fountain at 2 PM." Later post added at Riverwalk. The fountain was turned off. But our tour host walked right up to it wearing his UGA red shirt, so I emerged from the shade, wearing my USC red shirt.

I highly recommend the next time Sean is avaiable to be our tour guide. He is wonderful.

Do not forget that you can be a taxpayer in many ways without residency. I think that gives us a voice, at least.

So you come up with the better way. Please remember the anonymity issue some of us need. John Smith. One of my favorite all time posters. A lot of us came to trust others, even the ones we did not always agree with.
