Rants & Raves

I THINK I WILL GO down to the slum area tomorrow and pay $2.04 for a cup of coffee.

JUST BECAUSE the newspaper printed it in black and white and your picture and charges are in the Jail Report makes you guilty. You have to prove you’re not guilty but you have already been convicted and tried in the local news media and Jail Report. Even if you know you are not guilty and cannot afford to buy a lawyer, the public defender’s office will not do their job to prove your innocence. They want you to plead guilty. Their job is done; they get paid regardless of your defense.

THE CARTOON Candorville is too left-wing political to be on the cartoon page, if not dropped entirely. Like Doonesbury it should be moved to the editorial page or the trash can!

IF OBAMA HAD A CITY it would look like Detroit or Augusta.

I DON’T GET where you think freeloaders will get it worse than Third World countries. As far as I can see, they get the best. They run to soup kitchens for free meals, they can get access to free clothing and foods and other giveaways at various places and some get free living quarters in local shelters. They have better clothes with no holes than I do, some even manage to beg
monies off of too-generous people and then
brag about having the cash to buy “goodies” they can’t find for free. That is way better than Third World.

RAVE FOR THE staff at the tag office on Lumpkin Road. They are indeed friendly and efficient. Even waiting in a long line, each customer was greeted with a cheerful smile and friendly, helpful demeanor.

WE THE PEOPLE of Augusta-Richmond County have spoken about the way our county government operates. We must make fundamental changes to the number of commissioners as well as the job description of the mayor. Though they all say they are concerned for Augusta, they are too concerned with their own districts instead of looking at the big picture. Though they say it is not, every issue comes down to black vs. white. Go color blind. Get back to the basics of honesty, integrity, respect, character and being thrifty. Scout Law would be a good guide.

PLEASE HELP TO END slavery. It is estimated that between 100,000 and 300,000 children are trafficked for sex each year in the United States. The average age is between the ages of 12 and 14. No market can survive without demand. If men stop buying it, human trafficking will end.

Tee Center & Urban redevelopment plan

1. Let's hope they just drop the word 'slum', because we desperately need to move on.. There's no other investment except for maybe the Mills/Cultural campus that can bring the amount of growth to the CSRA versus the biotech park & student housing/retail development.

I hope our local media can share the good news, because people deserve to hear the truth. Connecting the TEE Center to the Marriott was the best idea, and the national exposure backs it up.

The Augusta Marriott at the Convention Center was named one of the best hotels/resorts in the south for meetings(based on the readers of Meeting Focus), and only three properties in Georgia made the list(Hyatt Regency/Grand Hyatt in Atlanta).
http://www.meetingsfocus.com/NewsEvents/BestOfAwards/tabid/70/Default.aspx

This article calls the new addition stunning, and one of the most appealing wedding venues in Georgia.

So they made a list....

I wonder if the other hotels own government ripped the tax payers off so the local paper owner and his cronies could make bank off their backs?

TEE Center

The tax payers voted for the TEE Center, and the vote is paying off. The Holiday Inn Express, future hotel near the common, 901 Broad, etc equals additional tax revenue. Lower taxes, better roads, higher quality law enforcement, etc are the end results..

Weddings?

So we built the TEE Center for some place to have weddings? Heh. I do believe there were other venues for that. Realize the voters only approved $18 million for the TEE, not the almost $100 million it will total with the parking garage, new air conditioning, management and maintenance fees and Laney-Walker pay-off and the Laney-Walker behind the back funding. The tax money and the COUNTY hotel tax could have been used in much better ways. I hope drunk Uncle Harry at the wedding parties in the TEE at least proposes a toast for the county taxpayers making all this possible.

Countyman - You made a point to justifying the T-Center

I & likely others would like to believe you.because believe it or not we would like to see ALL of Richmond Co. Improve.

Could you provide some details and facts how the T-center has infused Downtown business and improved Augusta.

Serious, Not a knock just want to understand how you have arrived at your conclusions.

A slow burn

Augusta has a chance to turn things around but they need to hurry....we will see N Augusta popping with great events & also Evans & Martinez moving ahead.....changing out the commish would be a good start....heck, we had to put some of ours in jail.

So, cut out the dead wood & look ahead.

So the House passed a spending bill and it's off to the Senate. The bill LEGALLY delays the individual mandate for the ACA (unlike the illegal delay that the President gave corporations). So now it's up to the Democrats in the Senate and the President to keep the government running......unless they don't think the working Americans deserve the same break that the President gave the corporations.

Regarding the Teen Sex Trafficking number in the USA.

This is a serious message and it should be treated with data that is beyond reproach.

While Federal law does not define sex trafficking per se. The term “severe forms of trafficking in persons,” as defined in the Victims of Trafficking and Violence Protection Act of 2000 (TVPA, P.L. 106-386) would also encompass sex trafficking. So the exact number of child victims of sex trafficking in the United States is unknown because comprehensive research and scientific data are lacking. Source of the data: U.S. Department of Justice, Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, Child Prostitution: Domestic Sex Trafficking of Minors. >/em>

http://www.justice.gov/criminal/ceos/prostitution.html.

---------------------------
NOTE: Federal USC and DOJ data defines a Child as 18 y/o or less.
---------------------------

Congressional Research Service 7-5700 www.crs.gov R41878
In January 2008, the DOJ task forces began entering data into HTRS. Between January 1, 2008, and June 1, 2010, the task forces opened 2,515 investigations of human trafficking; 82% of these were classified as sex trafficking (2,062). Of these sex trafficking cases, 83% involved U.S. citizen victims (1,711) and 40% involved prostitution or sexual exploitation of a person under 18 (648).

Rounded Math: 2515 - 82% = 2062 - 83% = 1,711 - 40% = approximately 684 under the age of 18. Which is about 26% of the Human Trafficking cases under investigation based on the last factual accounting.

The 100,000 quoted number is 100x higher that documented amounts and citing inflated numbers to generate Shock and Awe
only discredits the message and the messengers.

My Position
While there is 1 person being forced to engage in prostitution, by anyone in the state of Ga., that is 1 too many.

Criminal Acts such as the Pimping of Minors
should be treated as a capital offenses.

Well I was initially blaming

Well I was initially blaming Rep for the govt shutdown. But I realize that Cruz didn't have a filibuster-he did nothing. But we know Harry Reid and Senate Democrats crafted a Bill that they are now extorting Rep pass a clean bill with no additions or we will table the bill and allow a shut down. So it seems obvious Harry Reid and Dems are extortionist and shutting down the govt.

Shut Down

The reality is that Republicans lost the 2012 election, the majority of Americans support the Affordable Care Act and the House has voted over 40 times to defund Obamacare. It is totally irresponsible for the Republicans to try to tarnish the legacy of the President while pushing their pet projects. Funding the government should not be tied to idealogy

Stunning

Countyman says the TEE Center is “one of the most appealing wedding venues in Georgia.”

For me, what is more appealing is a man and a woman really pledging their wedding vows before God in a modest church. The fru-fru in the TEE Center is meaningless dross compared to quiet sincerity.

Regarding Obamacare. - I like Mike Huckabees suggestion.

"So, my advice is simple: Give the Democrats Obamacare under these conditions: No delays for anyone. Not big business, not small business, not labor unions, not states, not members of Congress or their staffs. And no exemptions. None. Not one group gets an exemption from Obamacare. Especially not Congress or their staff. Make the Democrats eat their own cooking. If they think it’s good for our plates, then they need to put it on their plates too and take the first bite. Republicans can’t really defund Obamacare because the votes just aren’t there. So draft a bill that funds it, but which allows no exceptions for delays and no exemptions for anyone to avoid it. And add this provision based on the President’s proposal: write in the bill a sunset clause. The bill automatically expires and has to be reauthorized on January 15, 2015. If it’s as good as President Obama and Democrats say it is, they public will love it so much they will insist that it be reauthorized. If it’s as disastrous as Republicans, the general public, and I think it will be, then Republicans will win enough elections next year to gain control of the Senate with a likely super majority and add enough numbers in the House to override a Presidential veto. "

Speaking of well fed and professional beggers

The little old white lady, in her 60's, has expanded her business area.
In additional to Augusta Exchange parking lots, she is now working the Wheeler Rd area / Doctors Hospital area. Plus she has additional stage props.

She is using a handicapped walker, giving a sob story as people leave with food or from eating.

I watched her clip 3 people at the Micky Dee's by Doctors Hospital Thursday. Watching her through the window and given the green changing hands she must bring in $125 to $200 TAX FREE easily, for a few hours play acting.

It is interesting to watch people react to her song and dance.

Probably one of the best I ever attended was in a little country chapel outside of Franklin, NC. It was very quaint and only had seating for 30 or so people. Obviously, it was a family only affair.
