Deer collision kills Barnwell couple

BARNWELL, S.C. — Police believe a Barnwell couple died Sunday night when the motorcycle they were riding collided with a deer.

David and Carolyn Lee, of Meadow Lane, died of head trauma after their motorcycle hit the deer shortly before 8:30 p.m., said Barnwell County Coroner Lloyd Ward.

David Lee, 56, was the driver, and he and his wife, Carolyn, 57, were wearing helmets when the crash occurred, said Cpl. Sonny Collins, of the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The couple was riding a 2013 Kawasaki motorcycle south on Reynolds Road. Near the intersection of Freedom Road, they hit the deer and lost control of the motorcycle, Collins said.

The crash remains under investigation by the highway patrol.
