Rants & Raves

IF FAST-FOOD workers want to earn $15 an hour, they need to get back into school and earn a degree in something marketable. No one “deserves” $15 an hour just because they are working, and working at a fast-food restaurant was not meant to support a family.

SINCE ALL SIDES in the Syrian civil war are nuts, the only good solution comes from Sarah Palin, who said, “Let Allah sort it out.”

MIGHT I SUGGEST that the Columbia County News-Times change its name to the “Augusta Prep Gazette” since there is an overabundance of news/sports articles relating to this private school.

PLEASE STOP reporting vehicle crashes as “accidents.” The overwhelming majority are caused by negligence on the driver’s part, which is no “accident.”

THIS IS A BIG RANT to the man on the bicycle riding in heavy morning traffic down Belair Road between 8 and 8:30! Do you have any idea the danger you are putting not only yourself in but the many drivers that have to swerve into the other lane to avoid hitting you. Something needs to be done about this before someone gets seriously hurt.

TO THE FREE ranter: Free haircut, free school supplies, free BUSH phones-yes George started them, not Obama. Do you want to live in a Les Miserables society? STOP THE HATE!

OBAMA HAS NOW maneuvered the U.S. into a Syria situation where there is NO good action for the U.S. to take.

RANT FOR ALL RACE car drivers running up and down Fairbluff Road in Hephzibah. We have more and more families with young children and three of four school buses a day that come up this road. And you guys are still breaking the speed limit until eventually one of you is going to kill one of these kids. You need to slow down.

HAVE YOU HEARD country music today? Who can we charge with the murder of country music? Country ain’t country any more.

IF YOU MARRIED A person with one child and the other person had three children, would you blame the person with one child for only giving things to his own child and not his partner’s children? I think he should share with his stepchildren.

WE DID NOT GET OUR garbage picked up this week. You need to do a much better job than that. It is unsanitary.

A rave to the clumsiness of our WH Administration

It kept us out yet another war.
We may look like fools, but in doing so it kept us out of a War
we had no business in to begin with.

Unless of course, the US State Dept is now supporting Middle East Terrorists and forgot to tell us.

The income gap between the rich and the rest of us is greater

than it's been since the 1920's. The 1 percent are pulling in profits hand over fist while most Americans struggle to make ends meet. It's unacceptable and we need change now. Congress could alleviate some of the economic pain and close the gap by raising the minimum wage, but we all know that the Republicans would never let that happen. Last year, McDonald's brought in $5.5 billion dollars in profits - and tripled its CEO's salary. But the majority of its employees make less than $16,000 a year. Many of these workers are adults caring for ailing parents or young children, and a salary that low makes it nearly impossible for them to survive. Most of them have to hold down multiple jobs. Many frequently go hungry. Tell McDonald's that you've had enough - no working American deserves to live in poverty. Pay your employees a living wage.

Minimum Wage

I began working at 15 years old after begging for a minimum wage job. I considered myself lucky when I was hired. I did that for a few years and then began my army career with college and graduate school eventually. Let me tell you I learned work ethics in those minimum wage jobs. Later when things weren't going right one day I'd remind myself of those early days, shut my mouth and put my nose back to the grindstone.

Ability vs. Minimum Wage

The argument that everyone should make more than the current minimum wage also has the ring of those who say everyone should be able to go to college. The fact is actually most are not cut out for college. They don't have the ability or academic aptitude. Some have the ability to be paid the least the market will pay and no more. Start changing that reality and you end up a poorer system whether it's college or the business world.

So if the driver is at fault it's not an accident? Are you suggesting that they crash on purpose?

A Rave for a hopeful trend

Abortion centers are shutting down at an unprecedented rate.

So far this year alone 42 clinics that provided surgical abortions have shut their closed their doors.

Many due to health and safety violations.
In one article a Health Inspector stated he had seen cleaner Food slaughter houses.

It seems many abortion clinics were really production based profit centers. So what happen to; lets get abortions out of the unclean backrooms, and into a clean hospital surrounding. Because it seems many have become the very thing they were to have avoided, unclean, backroom filthy clinics, Intern Doc's, CNA for nursing care and with an entrance door to allies.

So far
2013 - 42 surgical clinic closures
2012 - 25 surgical clinic closures
and 30 that were shutdown in 2011,

At 200 -250 abortions per month per location that figures:

97 closed clinics x 200 avg = 19, 400 abortions not being performed per month.

12 months x 19,400 = 232,800 almost a 1/4 million per year less abortions being performed in these filthy clinics.

For whatever reason you can accept,
Abortion Clinics are in fact closing down in record numbers.

McDonalds Wages

If it means that much to you that McD's employees make more per hour then start eating at an upscale restaurant for lunch. Employees there make more money. Same with Wal Mart complaints. Just start shopping at Sears, J C Penny, Macy's...... the list goes on.

A Brief Autobiography

Starting with high school graduation. Then I started college, my girlfriend got pregnant which meant I now had a family to support. Guess what, it was our CHOICE not to use birth control. Some may call it an accident, I call her a wonderful daughter. Next was divorce. Again another CHOICE. Then I decided to go back to college. Guess where I worked at while in college. Nope not McD's. It was Burger King. Guess what? I CHOOSE to work there. I realized as RM has often pointed out that college just wasn't for me. But I still need a marketable skill. I made a CHOICE to join the Army. That worked great until a medical discharge put me out. I used skills learned in the Army and people skills learned at BK to get a job. Due to physical condition I was forced to leave that job. I looked around for jobs I could do. I found one. Truck driving. Another CHOICE. Did I mention my first job after dropping out of college was truck driving. Why? Looking into the job market drivers were in high demand in my area. I CHOOSE to go the the DMV to get a chauffeurs license. You see folks, your personal CHOICES do more to determine if you make a career of asking "Do your want fries with that?" or using it as a stepping stone to something better.

Minimum wage

It's a real conundrum (nice word, huh?). The problem is that the jobs minimum wage jobs used to prepare you for are no longer there. All we are left with is low paying services job such as retail and restaurants. It is not the fault of the employers and not their responsibility to pay folks more than the skill set of the job requires. Yet it is sad that heads of households now have to try to live off minimum wage. Not good times for sure.

Hmmm....

I would say that driving while drunk is deliberate, no accident. As is using a cell phone and being distracted. Or speeding, or following too closely, or changing lanes without looking.

Accident would be no fault and the driver not charged.

Service

Since most manufacturing has gone overseas, the largest skill set needed is in the service sector. Customer service and the service industry make up the largest portion of US jobs. If you want to make a career of McD's then go ahead, but you already know the pay rate, if you're not satisfied with it then improve yourself. Learn a skill or another service to get into that pays more. Since most employees going to work in the fast food industry are just entering the workforce, they have no skills or values to bring to the table. The value you bring determines the value you get!!

McDonalds

CEO Salary = $13M
Employees= 1.8M

The CEO makes a fraction of a cent per hour for each employee. Stop the nonsense about CEO salaries. You could take all of his ridiculously high pay and give to the employees, and they couldn't buy a quarter pounder meal deal for Christmas.

Yet the same people will pay big $$$ to see their favorite rapper chant, or pitcher perform at $10,000/ pitch. They think nothing of plopping down $10 or more to see some movie star making $100M or more for some piece of fiction; but resent the man at the head of one of the largest companies in the world making a fraction of that.

No, that dog won't hunt.

Rant # 1 Minimum Wage

"IF FAST-FOOD workers want to earn $15 an hour, they need to get back into school and earn a degree in something marketable. No one “deserves” $15 an hour just because they are working, and working at a fast-food restaurant was not meant to support a family"

It's called a LIVING WAGE!! However, even I think to go up to $15.00 is too much at one time. I would compromise on $12.00 and ease up to $15.00 over a period of 5 years. $12.00 is still not a LIVING WAGE, but it closer than $10.00 for some parts of the country.

Lets talk McDonald facts and living wage.

McDonald's has, over 33,000 restaurants around the world in 118 countries.

McDonald's serves 1% of the world's population every day.

McDonald's' has $24 billion in GROSS revenues.

McDonald's hires around 1 million workers in the US every year and for about 68% it is their 1st job, with 150% turnover rate per year.

McDonalds employs one in 8 American workers.

Queen of England owns a McDonald's.

$Gross Revenue of $24B divided by 33,000 stores = $727,272.72 per franchise location overall avg.

See how McDonalds stack up against other businesses.

http://www.glassdoor.com/Salary/Lowe-s-Salaries-E415.htm

Vs.

http://www.whitehouse.gov/21stcenturygov/tools/salaries

BTW: the average McDonald's Owner invests over $800K, employes 20-30 staff and his return is about $90k and a years

Many Dunkin' Donuts make more P&L NET Revenue than a McDonald's

"You see folks, your personal CHOICES....

Great post, Roadkill.

Roadkill has just articulated a pearl of wisdom that has the potential to make the biggest difference in modern American society of any other I've seen in here lately.

Your station in life, at any time in your life, is largely the result of the sum of the choices you've made so far in your life. You are what YOU HAVE decided to be, one choice at a time.

Yes, there is a place for outside influences. If you're lucky, you have someone to help you, or sometimes make you, make the right choices. Even if you don't, you learn by experience, and make better choices the second time around.

Your life is YOUR responsibility. If we could get people to understand that, society would be the better for it and America would be on the path to recovery.

Very profound statement that too many ignore.

It is an inescapable truth in a free society.

Rant about Obama

OMG....If I had a dime for every time Obama gets bad mouthed between the pages of this newspaper, I could probably live a better life than I am now!! The people who have money say, "Money does not give happiness." I think ALL who have very little would like to try it!!

As for the bad mouthing of Obama, didn't you hear, Russia is going to handle that small matter for him.
