The Salvation Army is seeking donations for its upcoming auto action, which funds its local Drug & Alcohol Rehabilitation Program.

“We look at each car as a life that can be saved,” said Maj. Tony Perez, the Augusta area commander, in a news release. “We currently have 45 vehicles in the lot, but we’re hoping for 65.”

About 80 men go through the free, nine-month rehab program each year.

The Oct. 5 auction is being held in recognition of National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month. It will be at 1384 Greene St.

Anyone who wishes to donate a used car, truck, boat or RV can contact the auto auction coordinator at (706) 434-3178. Everyone who donates will receive a free, three-month individual gold membership to the Kroc Center.

Donations are tax-deductible, and free pick up is available. Vehicles have to be working in order to be donated.
