Soul singer Sharon Jones, an Augusta native, is planning to film a documentary on her life in her hometown.

An agent with Jones’ management company said details haven’t been finalized, but she could come back to Augusta “fairly soon.”

Since the end of June, Jones has been undergoing rehabilitation at an upstate New York medical facility after she had surgery for stage-one bile duct cancer. Her band, Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, postponed plans for an album, originally set for release Aug. 6, and a tour this year because she needed surgery.

“She’s feeling very strong and is anxious to get back on stage and on tour,” said Austen Holman, of management company Lever and Beam.

Holman said the album could be released early next year, when the tour could resume.

Jones, 57, moved back to the Augusta area in 2011.
