According to figures compiled by the Columbia County Emergency & Operations Division, the heaviest rainfall – 4.4 inches – was recorded at the county’s Crawford Creek wastewater plant off Columbia Road.
Other amounts and locations included 3.83 inches in Walnut Hill, 3.3 inches at Rivershyre subdivision, 2.55 inches at the county government center, 3.5 inches at the Clarks Hill water plant near Pollards Corner, and 3.5 inches at the county’s Little River wastewater plant.
Although some streams – Crawford Creek in particular – flowed beyond their banks, no damage to homes or highways was reported, Emergency & Operations Director Pam Tucker said.
The widespread rainfall also boosted the elevation of Thurmond Lake by half a foot overnight. The 70,000-acre reservoir’s pool elevation rose to 331 feet above sea level early Monday.
