Labor commissioner to address Augusta employers

Georgia Labor Com­mis­sioner Mark Butler will visit Augusta next week to provide local business owners and human resource professionals an update on the state workforce and changes in employment law.

Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler will speak at Thursday's East Central Georgia Business and Employer Summit at Augusta Technical College.

As the keynote speaker at Thursday’s East Central Georgia Business and Employer Summit at Augusta Technical College, Butler is expected to focus on steps to create jobs, eliminate fraud and improve workforce development and efficiency.

Joining Butler will be Cherry Rizer, an employment and training consultant at the Department of Labor; J. Edward Enoch Jr., an Augusta lawyer who specializes in business law; and Don Betts, a certified economic developer from Georgia Tech.

The all-day conference, held by the Georgia Department of Labor and the State Employer Committee, aims to “offer a crash course for forward-thinking” supervisors, managers, human resource professionals and business owners looking for ways to conquer compliance challenges.

Seating is limited for the workshop, which will run from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the 600 Building auditorium at Augusta Technical College, 3200 Tech Drive.

The cost for the event, which includes a light breakfast and lunch, is $60 ($75 at the door) and $50 for additional participants per company. Participants can receive recertification credits for taking the program.

• Cherry Rizer, who assists employers in resolving unemployment insurance issues, will offer advice on best practices in claims and appeals representation.

• Edward Enoch, a representative of Enoch Business Attorneys, will speak on The Supremes – The Hits and Near Misses of 2013.

• Don Betts will address Employers Like Me – Sustainable Healthcare Innovations and will provide information to help nonhealth-related employers establish a new organization called EmployersLikeMe – a peer-to-peer networking group.
