Comments from readers:

I DON’T UNDERSTAND why Paine College has gone to all that expense to set up a police force when they are already in deep financial trouble. Why is it necessary in the first place to establish a 13-person police force on a small campus such as Paine College since the local police can handle (it)?

IF PAULA DEEN were black and Treyvon Martin were white, none of these things would have played out the same.

IF HILLARY CLINTON is to be our next president, she needs to take some time to improve her management skills. Among her obvious job failures (the Russia “reset”, Benghazi massacre, North Korea, Middle East chaos, etc.), she left State Department in a mess and national security at risk.

IF OBAMACARE IS so good, why is the administration continually using hard-sell tactics to promote it? President Obama keeps telling us that we are going to be paying less, and we will have more choices, but the overall feeling is that this is not true. I am sure someone will benefit from Obamacare, but it’s not going to be the general population who will have to pay more.

SINCE SOME OR all these commissioners who went on this “educational” trip have “degrees” from some of these rinky-dink colleges, I hope they actually learned something.

BLACK ON WHITE, nothing said; black on black, nothing said; white or Latino on black – oh man, here they come. Time to change.

DID ANYBODY NOTICE the same bags of trash on the Interstate 20 bridge going from Georgia into South Carolina? The same trash and tire debris has been there for months. It really set’s a good example for the folks living here. Get busy, road crew.

TRAFFIC CAMERAS ARE nice on Wrightsboro Road, but are really needed at Gordon Highway at Barton Chapel. Logging trucks are running this red light and North Leg light on a regular basis. I have had to hit brakes twice after proceeding to go through green light because of a truck not stopping.

Look what Downtown is willing to give the South Side

PUBLIC HEARING
A public hearing will be held on Monday, August 5, 2013 at 3:30 P.M. or thereafter at the close of the regular meeting of the Augusta Georgia Planning Commission, in Room 803 of the Augusta Municipal Building, 530 Greene Street, Augusta, Georgia for the following:

A request by Hull Barrett P.C., on behalf of Bluff Plantation LLC, for the solicitation of comments regarding the establishment of a rehabilitation and treatment facility/halfway house for persons with dependency and addiction related problems per Section 35-10 of the Comprehensive Zoning Ordinance for Augusta Georgia and O.C.G.A. at 36-66-4(f) of the Georgia State Code on property located at 959 Bennock Mill Road and containing approximately 177 acres. Bennock Mill Road is about 3/4 of a mile pass Brown Rd. On Hwy 56.

Wouldn't this type of facility be better suited near the Medical district?

OPEN QUESTION TO ARC COMMISSIONERS
Do we have any other great things coming to the South Side?
We SHOULDN'T know about?

About the Rehab Center

Let's see the wealthy agent is in-laws with the head public official in the county, I'd say it's a done deal.

Why not build it at a more

Why not build it at a more accessible location.
I would think downtown would be a necessity.

"...I am sure someone will benefit from Obamacare..."

His constituency; those getting care free now are being protected from cuts in service by jacking up the amount non-moochers have to pay for less than what they had under private plans.

Anyone Else?

Every time I skim down the front page, that headline "Woman accused of tasing in Cracker Barrel Denied Bond" catches my eye and I mistakenly think she was tasting in the restaurant and denied bail. One of those little mistakes that makes life interesting and fun. Heh.

Focus

Hey, I was just watching Michelle Malkin on Fox News. The subject was Benghazi, and she pointed out that the Obama spin machine was saying they were focusing on finding the killers. Then, Malkin said, “Of course, this administration has all the focus of a chronic inebriate with cataracts.” Malkin rocks!

For the past five and half years, Obama has been saying he needs to focus like a laser on jobs, jobs, jobs. How's that workin’ for ya?

Retreat

SeenIt, the property in question has been used as a fancy retreat by one or more of the principals of the LLC. He/they have grown tired of it and now see an opportunity to sell or lease it to a fancy California company for a place for wealthy folks to dry out for a while.

A spokesman on TV news yesterday told the reporter that the clients of the rehab center would not be leaving the facility; they are there for the seclusion. So, no, there is no need for the facility to be near the medical district.

My parents

My parents put 7 kids through the Richmond county school system.....in all that time they had 0 free lunch for any of us....I think back when the going was tough, my dad worked construction in the 50s & 60s & sometimes he wasn't working....we lived off the veggies & gardens we had & my granmom had...why is it different now? We made it & didn't ask the gov for help.

Seclusion

The neighbors of the proposed rehab facility are nervous about such a place in their residential area. Perhaps they might like it better if it were to be a nudist colony. The spokesman said it was very secluded.

My son-in-law is in optics

... and points out the error of the phrase "focus like a laser"; the genius of a laser is it does not come to a focal point.

(And neither does The Obamessiah.)

Free Lunches Will Make You Blind

The only thing that can be free is something we can make with our minds. As of now nothing concrete has come from anyone's mind. Goodness I tried enough. When I was coming into puberty, I tried to conjure up Ginger from Gilligan's Island every night. Well, Mary Ann sometimes, too. Heck, probably Mrs. Howell once or twice, too. By the way, I didn't go blind like some getting the free Richmond County breakfasts and lunches.

I was hoping John Rocker would stick around in Augusta for awhile when he was here the other day. He could run for mayor. What a difference he would be.

Rudyard Kipling

He wrote a famous poem titled If .

I don't quite get rant # 2. I guess I could add my observation: If Barak Obama had a black African father and a white North American mother, but his skin tone were white, none of these things would have played out the same.

Btw..I read that Jamie Deen has kept the black lady on at the restaurant (the one who claimed that Paula said she was her soul sister) also will pay her $71,000 a year ....also will fix problems in her home ....I would say the Deens have gone above & beyond to help some workers in Savannah Ga....amazing we never hear that side of the story.

Good Morning "Idiot Me" America

Not much for me to sink my idiot teeth in this AM.

"Why is anything called

"Why is anything called free??"

It's the way the majority in RC look at things....including our elected officials. As long as some other poor sucker is paying for it, it must be free. The RCBOE is doing a disservice to everyone by getting folks addicted to this federal program, all the while knowing that the money for this program will be cut sooner or later. Or do they already intend to increase OUR school taxes to cover this when the Feds cut the funding? Oh well, when you live in a WELFARE county you get WELFARE leadership. The RCBOE cannot educate but they can pass out free PBJ sandwiches....which is about all they are qualified to do.

Has anyone reconciled these "free" school meal programs against the Food Stamp roles to see how many DOUBLE DOUBLE meals the taxPAYERS are paying for? Looks to me like this is government sponsored welfare fraud.

Airplane Repo

I've been watching this show about repoing airplanes. We need to have our resident Chronicle posting, airport honcho, let them do a show from Augusta Regional and make like they are getting a plane from here. We could even get the RCSO involved to make it look good. Have the repo guys hiding out in the stinky sewage plant next door until they run out and get the plane. Let Bob Young and Deke be involved somehow since they like to get in every movie and documentary made in the CSRA. Have the dog that chases the birds off come out and bark at them.
