Georgia sees increase in temporary workers

ATLANTA — The use of temporary workers is on the rise in Georgia, following a national trend that’s typically considered as an indication of economic improvement.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Saturday that Georgia has seen a 40 percent increase in the number of temporary workers over the past four years. The newspaper reports more than 101,500 people are now employed as temporary workers in the state. Nationally, temp jobs increased by 53 percent to 2.7 million workers.

Hiring of temporary workers has increased in nearly every industry, Jim Link, Atlanta-based managing director for staffing at recruiting agency Randstad USA, told the newspaper.

Temporary workers help employers quickly increase their workforce to meet shifting demands and cut costs, said Vice President of Kelly Services Will Cephus.

The downside of an increase in temporary workers is that the pay tends to be lower for temp workers than if they worked for a company directly, Managing Partner of the Intersect Group Wade Hughes said.

However, exceptions include temporary positions in high demand industries – such as information technology.

“The supply is pretty thin in Atlanta for some of the I.T. folks,” Hughes said. “They name their price.”

More than 40 percent of temporary workers go on to become permanent employees where agencies have placed them, Cephus said.

Temp hiring usually increases as the economy comes out of a recession, Staffing executives say.

Obamacare

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. If you use temporary workers you do not have to put them on the company healthcare plan. The Obama media machine really are good at spinning economic stories.

Temp Agency's

The downfall of the American worker. Handlers as I like to call them live off of the sweat of the actual worker.
