Rants & Raves

Comments from readers:

A BIG RAVE TO the couple who drove by my house in Jones Creek and let me know that my pine straw was on fire, rang my door bell and called 911. I didn’t get your names but thank you, thank you, thank you.

HAS ANYONE ELSE NOTICED THAT even though the speed limit on I-520 drops 5 mph coming into Augusta from SC, cars speed up instead of slowing down? When is the new sheriff going to get his deputies on the stick and start enforcing traffic laws here? And when is Augusta going to start using the traffic cams to enforce laws?

A HUGE RANT TO drivers who tailgate. When you are traveling on a four-lane road there is no “fast lane.” There is a right and a left lane which the posted speed limit applies to both lanes. By the way, the posted speed limit on Riverwatch under the I-20 overpass is 35 mph.

I WITNESSED A KIND ACT by a North Augusta policeman on Five Notch Road. He stopped traffic in both lanes to allow two handicapped senior citizens cross the road on their motorized wheel chairs. There is still law enforcement that understands what protect and serve truly means. Kudos to you, young man.

SO, ALEC BALDWIN makes unacceptable comments towards homosexuals. Will he receive the same sort of public demonizing like Paula Deen did? I doubt it.

PRESIDENT OBAMA proposed voter IDs for people in a country in Africa. If it is OK in Africa why isn’t it OK in America?

REGARDING THE Augusta Gay Pride parade, etc. Coming out of the closet does not mean one has to go on stage. Leave me alone!!

JUST A SUGGESTION TO The Chronicle. Cut all the religious items. Use the savings of deleting “Your Faith” weekly sections and go back to the really well put together high school, college and NFL football sections at the beginning of football season that ran years ago.

RICHMOND COUNTY Board of Education is always having cuts due to the budget. School buses pick up students for summer school. There are only a couple of students on the bus, teachers for these students and lunchroom staff – all of this costing tax payers money. Why don’t the parents of these students that go to summer school have to pay and provide transportation for their children?

Last Ranter

The last ranter is absolutely correct. There is no federal mandate to provide transportation to summer school students. Summer school is a "catch up" privilege, not a right. Parents of summer school students should pay the entire freight — transportation, lunch, supplies, etc.

Yes, and that is entirely too low a limit. Raise it to 40.

Yes, and Augusta should raise its speed limit to match SC's 60 mph. A 55 mph speed limit over the swampland is entirely too slow.

Congratulations America America - There is still hope.

Other than a few sporadic incidents nationwide, our country by a vast majority has maintained its cool.

Thank GOD, or who those that planned to have the trial end on a Friday night and the jury for deliberately into late Saturday night. The timing put a real damper on a majority of the heavily
incited racial hostility speeches and actions of a few others.

The Parents of T. Martin took the high road, and not the top step on the court house steps with a hate spewing Reverend. This showed me more than anything, that some did not want more death on their hands, by their words or by their actions.

Yes Sunday, so far, it has been quiet and I am praying it is what we will have.

But for the time being, it appears America has come to its senses and decided it will not to be lead down a path so others will further profit from their incited destructive speeches.

However, we must be on guard.
There still remains those that only profit if there is hostility and a civil disturbance. These are the real enemies, we all must identify and expose as wolves prying on our emotions. Because they line their pockets and control groups for their own power, $$$$ and personal agenda goals.

So again .....Congratulations America we have all grown up a little in the last few weeks.

A modest proposal, "Cut all the religious items.

... go back to football sections..."

Nothing superficial or selfish about that. Sports have always provided inspiration and example; plus, if we were to cover post game of the NFL, NBA, and pro ball, we'd be getting the crime coverage at the same time!

LL, that speed limit under

LL, that speed limit under the overpass is set by the Federal Department of Transportation, it can't be raised. It's Federal law.

As for summer school, many of those children are special needs children who need to receive services year round. I cannot understand anyone who would begrudge special needs children education and services. A 3 month lapse would cause them serious problems.

And for children that are struggling in school, they can't afford a 3 month gap either. I don't understand how anybody would begrudge that either.

Pay for schools, or pay for prisons. Which is better?

Umbrellas

Hey, guys and gals, if every reader of this R&R column will click on the umbrella link below and make a comment on it, we can test the algorithm and see whether a dead story can be brought back to life on the Most discussed list. But you've got to hurry! The latest algorithm removes the R&R from Sunday evening as soon as the new R&R hits the Monday online edition.

Watching Fox News on TV and loving it!

They are giving the "Special Prosecutor" Angela Corey in the Zimmerman case hell for even bringing the charges to begin with. As it turns out she is not without controversy before this debacle. Hope she gets disbarred!

Sorry for her underlings that had to proceed under her direction! I bet if you asked them they would say that they didn't believe/agree with the charges from the beginning.

http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2013/07/14/Zimmerman-Prosecutor-...

And now we also have the infamous left wing Dept. of Justice looking at the case. We know how that will go. It will result in more trumped up charges!

I don't know about eliminating sections, but I can remember when the AC used to have quality coverage of the Atlanta Braves. It's been many years. Now they pretty much run AP articles or rehashed info from other media outlets. Tis a shame.

Corgi, how about RCSS only picking up certified special needs kids, and requiring the rest of the families to provide transportation for their children who chose not to study during the regular school year?

To this rant

SO, ALEC BALDWIN makes unacceptable comments towards homosexuals. Will he receive the same sort of public demonizing like Paula Deen did?

Nahhh...never will happen...Paula was easy pickings for the media...even the attorney said he would enjoy doing her over....a woman---white---from the south--loaded with money......this is the reason we need a national news corp that originates from the SOUTH!

I agree sweetson

Corey's conduct had been questioned from the start, when she made the dramatic announcement that her office would be charging Zimmerman with murder. The affidavit that she filed with the court had omitted exculpatory evidence of Zimmerman's injuries, prompting Harvard Law School professor Alan Dershowitz to accuse her of a "grave ethical violation," adding that her conduct was "not only immoral, but stupid."

Even Dershowitz said her conduct was stupid!

Speed

Ok, if cops write more speeding tickets they should be out fighting real crime.

If they don't write speeding tickets then they aren't doing their job.

Well which is it. Reminds me of a joke in Texas. Texas had an advertising campaign..."Drive friendly, the Texas way". Which do you want? Drive friendly or drive the Texas way? We can't do both.

I see the DOJ is now investigating other ways to drop the hammer on Zimmerman. Their original plan to wrongly jail someone for defending himself failed, so now it's on to plan B?

Augustaisdying, your attitude

Augustaisdying, your attitude of "children didn't study" is not correct.

Schools have changed dramatically. The emphasis on tests have left teachers unable to help struggling students.

There are some kids that just need a little extra help and time to grasp something. Most children do not develop on a linear path; they lag and spurt, lag and spurt.

There is nothing wrong with children needing a little extra help to master something. They are CHILDREN. They are not "one size fits all".

My son took Algebra in high school. He struggled, but he passed. I told him he needed to take it again in summer school, to strengthen his skills. He took it in summer school, and did very well. That's all he needed, another round of it, to master it.

It is unrealistic to think that a child will grasp everything, easily, for 13 years, the first time around. That's just not how children are.

I just can't imagine anybody begrudging a child a chance to learn.

So according to Holder,
Unpublished

So according to Holder, defending one's self is a civil rights violation now. And if it were, why wasn't it an issue until Zimmerman was acquitted? First he pays protesters to get Zimmerman arrested, now this. Tell me this isn't a racial witch hunt. How long will this man be allowed to abuse his job?

REALLY? OCGA40-6-40(b), 40-6-184(a)(2) keep right law and impeding traffic law apply.
On roads, streets, or highways with two or more lanes allowing for movement in the same direction, no person shall continue to operate a motor vehicle in the most left-hand lane at less than the maximum lawful speed limit once such person knows or should reasonably know that he is being overtaken in such lane from the rear by a motor vehicle traveling at a higher rate of speed, except when such motor vehicle is preparing for a left turn.
It means if somebody is behind you, move over. I used to love writing tickets for this before I retired.

What is it with Oakland Calif?

Demonstrators across America rallied against Zimmerman on Sunday. Most of the protests were peaceful, but in cities like Oakland, Calif., there were reports of vandalism.

It's not just Oakland

... Seenit; it's happening all over. But, like the nineteen racially driven riots on the 4th of July which didn't make our overlord's propaganda outlets, and I posted several days ago on this forum, it's not being covered over here. Here's a link sent to me by a worried collegue who's moved back to Britain:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2362973/Protests-erupt-coast-coa...

If a riot happens and there's no media coverage, does it make a sound?

Wait..it could be the Attorney for Zimmerman....if they can dig up some stuff..
Maybe Rand Paul.....surely they can find some goodies on him...somewhere! :)

Well that is my guess....I'm waiting for the show to begin..

I have said on here before to read news from other countries....cherry picked in the USA....with a left slant..they sway the news to suit THEIR agenda....I read a lot & I see the bias everyday.
