Army Spc. Hilda Clayton, an Augusta photographer who documented overseas security, died July 2 after a mortar weapons system failed during a training exercise in Afghanistan.
Clayton is expected to arrive at Augusta Regional Airport around 10:25 a.m. Sunday, Poteet Funeral Homes General Manager Sean Gillen said. A funeral procession will begin at the airport, go down Tobacco Road and end at the funeral home at 3465 Peach Orchard Road.
The funeral home is asking residents to line the route to pay respects to Clayton. The procession is expected to last around 10 minutes.
“I would hope that people would come out and show their support for not only the family, but for someone who was brave enough to sacrifice their life for us,” Gillen said.
