Baggy pants stop suspect’s getaway

JONESBORO, GA. — Clay­ton County police say a carjacking suspect was arrested after his attempt to escape was slowed by his baggy pants.

Officer Danielle Rosa told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that police were pursuing Elijah Freeman, 20, as a suspect in a carjacking at a apartment complex at about noon Friday.

She said Freeman wrecked the car in front of police headquarters and tried to run on foot.

“He nearly ran himself out of his pants,” she said.

Rosa said a detective spotted a man driving away from the apartment complex and was trying to stop him when the car crashed.

Pedestrian causes 7-car I-85 wreck

ATLANTA — An accident involving seven cars and a pedestrian shut down all southbound lanes of Interstate 75 south of downtown Atlanta for most of Friday morning’s rush hour.

Five of the drivers have been charged with drunken driving, and the pedestrian was also charged.

Police said the pedestrian walked into the interstate, causing the seven-car pileup, about 3 a.m. The pedestrian was in critical condition at a hospital.

The wreckage wasn’t cleared until around 9 a.m.

Teen killed outside nightclub in Macon

MACON, GA. — Authori­ties say a 17-year-old boy was shot to death after a fight led to gunfire outside a nightclub in Macon.

Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones said Jamonni Bland was killed in a parking garage near the Zodiac Lounge at the River View Ballroom. Three others were wounded in the shooting.

Gary Lester said he fled the lounge when the fight started and saw a man retrieve a weapon from a car outside.
