Timothy Scott Thompson, 46, of San Antonio, was wearing dark clothes in the rain about 10:15 p.m. while helping an American Red Ball Transit driver back a truck from a private drive onto Park West Drive, just off Interstate 20, according to a Columbia County Sheriff’s Office accident report.

Larhonda Natoria Jackson, of Harlem, was driving her Chevrolet Impala west and swerved to avoid hitting the back of the truck, which was partially in the road. Jackson said she didn’t see Thompson in the road and hit him.

Thompson was vaulted into the air and landed on the edge of the road. He was found at fault in the incident because he was wearing dark clothes in the rain, preventing him from being seen, according to the report.

Jackson and the truck driver were not injured.

Did the truck have lights on

Did the truck have lights on the side of it as he was backing into the street and if so, shouldn't she have seen the truck and slowed down or stop instead of swerving around the back end of the truck, especially since it was raining.

To bad Thomson wasn't riding a bicycle, then he would not have been at fault. funny how the law works......It used to be illegal to back into a highway. Now people do it all the time a cause wrecks all the time.

Tractor Trailer

OldRedneckMan has given us wise advice. Tractor-trailer rigs in residential neighborhoods should park themselves such that they do not require backing up to enter roadways. These young whippersnapper truck drivers do not pay attention to their training.

RoadKill could give them a tip or two.

It's kind of bizzare how the map posted above shows I-20 in Louisiana, not Columbia County.

I guess we've got the sub-assistant editors in for the holidays.
