Last month was the wettest June on record in Augusta, and forecasters believe the rain will continue into Independence Day celebrations.

Augusta measured 10.83 inches of rainfall in June, beating out the 2004 record by nearly a quarter of an inch.

Rainfall has continued through the first week of July, and conditions are not improving for a bright, sunny July Fourth.

Pam Tucker, the director of Columbia County Emergency and Operations Division, said significant flooding is possible across north and western Georgia on Thursday. . The Augusta area will get only a slight reprieve with a forecast of scattered and isolated showers and thunderstorms.

“This is not the best scenario,” Tucker said in a news release, “but it is a much better scenario than our friends to the west and north of us will have to contend with. So, if we believe in the forecast models, we do still have hope for our Fourth of July celebrations.”

The Climate Prediction Center is predicting the entire month of July to be a wet one.

“The one-month outlook is predicting above-normal precipitation,” said Dan Miller, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service.

As of 2 p.m. Wednesday, just under an 1 inch of rain had fallen in July.

I thought it would be higher. Didn't we get almost 10 inches in like 3 hours one evening?? I know people in North Augusta that got flooded.

Rain total

I don't know where they record rainfall totals but we're received a lot more than 10.3". We had more than 10" in three days and it rained nearly every day after that as well. I have a rain gauge and had to dump it every week and it totals up to 5".

I think (don't know for sure) that the official

site for measurement is somewhere around Bush Field.

I'm sure someone on these boards knows....
