IF ANY PARENT believes the Richmond County Board of Education cares about you, think again. When will the people stand up for their children’s education? They already want to cut 100 or more jobs at the schools, but not at the board. All they know to do is draw a paycheck. I heard each child is worth $10,000. No wonder they don’t want families to leave the county. Your child makes them money. You could send your child to a private school. We should call our state representatives and tell them we want vouchers. Better yet we ought to start firing those at the board who are just taking advantage of us.

WHY DO CHURCHES try to learn and teach out of reworded, altered, misinterpreted Bibles? Maybe they ought to try to learn and teach out of the King James Version.

OUR HOSTESS TWINKIES will be back on the shelves again. There is now a new owner that has a non-union workforce. The original owner was forced to sell because its unionized workers would not agree on the changes that were necessary for the company to survive. Long live the Twinkie!

THANKS TO The Chronicle for its coverage of domestic violence in the Metro section. The inclusion of the contact information for both the National Domestic Violence Hot line and Safe Homes of Augusta should help those who have the need to reach out for help. Thanks for putting the spotlight on this important topic.

I APPLAUD ANY method that is used to educate our youths. I just hope that the online charter school Provost Academy, which will open in Augusta shortly, will be able to reach out to those who are struggling with the more traditional learning methods. I wish them success.

I HAVE TWO SONS who have had the benefit of Chris Wilkins’ teaching abilities, and both have benefited from his knowledge and teaching style. Not just textbook, but life lessons. I, for one, hope and pray he remains as a teacher at Greenbrier High School.

A FENDER-BENDER on River Watch Parkway the other day had all occupants safely walking around the vehicles, which had pulled over. Arriving and stopping miles of traffic were three Richmond County police vehicles, one Georgia State Patrol vehicle, two fire trucks and one ambulance. Some adults never grow out of playing cowboys and Indians.

Why stop there? There's the Geneva, the medieval Vulgate-- oh hell, go straight to the Nag Hammadi Manuscripts if you're good at Aramaic!

Education will continue to see cut and Tax hikes

as more tax paying people flee, property values fall and of the gradual migration to other areas continues. Not to mention the continuous lawsuits that cost RCBOE the equivalent salaries of several teacher salaries each time or us a tax hike.

The RC BOE has no choice but to address cuts, adjustments, and tax hikes.

Now Countyman tell us about Diamond Park, Five Guys and Starbucks.

I know I am going touch a nerve on this comment.

Quoting
"WHY DO CHURCHES try to learn and teach out of reworded, altered, misinterpreted Bibles? Maybe they ought to try to learn and teach out of the King James Version ."

The only true bible are the scrolls written in Greek in the early 2nd century & Hebrew written Pre-BC.

King James, while accepted as a standard, followed the Latin Roman Catholic Church approved version by several 100 years. An followed the Martin Luther 1540's bible which was from actual biblical period Greek scrolls.

And the King James version borrowed on it as well and was published around 1611.

So pick your true bible.

Rumors of a Columbia County arena surfaced in the story about the RiverHawks' future home. Interesting.

Facts

The sky is always falling in Richmond County, and it doesn't matter if Columbia County recently approved raising taxes or that Aiken County is looking to follow behind. I really don't know why I'm so popular, and the facts don't lie. Richmond County & Aiken County gained around the same number of people in the latest census estimate, and in the near future Richmond will easily surpass Columbia County.

Summerville, West Augusta, and Forest Hills are much RICHER than EVERYWHERE in the CSRA besides Aiken, Martinez, and Evans.

I've mentioned before how Genghis Grill is under construction in the Augusta Exchange, and one of the requirements was an avg HH income of $65k. Only a select few areas in the state outside of the Atlanta MSA/CSA can offer those demographics.

Riverman. The arena could become a positive for the Columbia County residents, but not a huge deal in terms of the size unless its an joint venture. The size of the exhibition hall underway in Grovetown compared to the TEE Center is a perfect example.

That made me LOL!

"Richmond County & Aiken County gained around the same number of people in the latest census estimate"
Yeah, and we all know how that census estimate worked out for Richmond County in 2010.

"and one of the requirements was an avg HH income of $65k. Only a select few areas in the state outside of the Atlanta MSA/CSA can offer those demographics."

We have two of them in Charlotte. They are just another casual-dining restaurant that caters to the middle class. They are in the same class as Applebees, Ruby Tuesday, TGIF, etc. Their gimmick is that you get to pick what you want in your bowl and then they fry it up for you.

And Genghis Grill is here because of CC, Countyman, not RC. West Augusta doesn't have enough population to support a restaurant all by itself.

"Summerville, West Augusta, and Forest Hills are much RICHER than EVERYWHERE in the CSRA besides Aiken, Martinez, and Evans."
Now, THAT is something that we can all agree on! This is not news.

Yeah, there's a big TEE Center in Augusta. Too bad it sits empty 99% of the time. I wonder why everyone in the US isn't clamoring to come to Augusta for a convention. It doesn't do much good to build a big facility if nobody comes to fill it up.

Oh, now size matters!!!!!

That didn't seem to be the case when the Civic Center was built, even though they were told it wouldn't be big enough to draw the big names!
Nor it seems for parking downtown or for the Tee Center or for a bridge from parking to the Tee Center! I wonder if the size of the settlement will matter when a pedestrian is hit dodging across the street from the parking deck to the Tee Center?

NSA slipped up again

National Intelligence Director James Clapper apologized yesterday for misleading Congress in March that the NSA did not have a policy of gathering data on millions of Americans.

He said in a letter to the Senate intelligence committee that his answer had been "clearly erroneous".

Remember the NEW Government PC / Double-speak term:

Erroneous

Means, breaking the Law, violating the US Constitution, and lying to or misleading congress and the American people.

When WE break the law we answer to the Government.
When the Government Agencies breaks the law shouldn't they be required to answer to a Citizen court with the same penalties?

columbia county

richmond county/augusta's only big thing is dfacs and welfare. west augusta should be annexed to columbia county so richmond conty can change its name to poor crime county. a top school system in the nation resides in cc. richmond counties system is poorly ranked. enough chatting, columbia county needs to reak away from augusta and create their own etro area. move the green jackets there.

Richmond County is what it is

Richmond County is what it is. There's a role as the epicenter of government, higher education and health care in the CSRA. It has its problems, but it serves a valuable function providing the urban setting for the above mentioned entities.

I see the Obama

I see the Obama administration has taken the ultimate step to buy the 2014 election for the Democrats. It has postponed the full implementation of Obamacare until 2015. No sir, sure can't let the Obamacare train wreck happen BEFORE the mid-term elections.

This is Obama and the Democrats admitting that it has become obvious the effects of Obamacare are going to be MUCH WORSE than even what the Republicans told us they would be. Even members of their own party are telling us it will be a train wreck. Well guess what folks......the effects will be just as bad in 2015. And what about all of those "paid in advance" taxes they have already been collecting for the 2014 kick off. They screwed us again.

Just another sleazy move by a sleazy administration trying cover up the sleazy policies implemented by a sleazy Democrat party. Don't fall for it folks. Obamacare will be just as big a train wreck in 2015 as it would have been in 2014.......the only difference is that you will have to wait ANOTHER 2 years for express your anger in the voting booth and the Democrats will have bought another election through fraud, lies, and manipulation.

Obamacare is an economy killer, a job killer, and a quality of health care killer.......and Obama and the Democrats know it. That is why they are afraid for you to see the effects BEFORE the 2014 elections. They know that in the 10 months between January '14 and November '14 Obamacare will have been SO bad that they would not have a chance of keeping the Senate or winning back the House. THAT is why Obamacare implementation was postponed. It is THAT bad and they know it.

Dichotomy, no, it's not.

Dichotomy, no, it's not. Nearly all large companies already offer health care to their employees, this will change very little.

Whenever Congress passes a major bill that requires reporting of information, it's all one big hot mess that takes awhile to sort out. The computer programs need to be written and tested and marketed, sold, and the employers would need to program them, and that takes time. There is just no way that it would be ready to go in 2014, that's less than 6 months away.

It's like all of those computer individual tax software that you can buy- every year people run into issues, because it's so complex. They are always full of bugs. And those don't have to be written from scratch, they just have to tweak it a little.

It's not hard to offer affordable insurance, that's not the reason.

When they first came out with computerized W-2 and 1099 forms, they were an absolute nightmare, all the programs had significant problems, and it took years to really get it all worked out. Now, it's commonplace and it's no problem. It's the same with this.

Corgimon.. Why do you continue to portray your opinions as facts? Applebee's, TGIF, etc don't require the avg HH income of at least $65k. The Windsor Spring/Peach Orchard location isn't that rich, and Applebee's is coming to Grovetown. The population of West Augusta is much larger than everywhere in Columbia County except for Martinez and Evans. Do you really believe Genghis Grill came here because of Grovetown and Harlem? I'm also laughing, because the closes area of Columbia County to the Augusta Exchange is Flowing Wells rd. This area of Martinez is middle class and not upper middle class. Spring Lakes is probably the exception, but Conifer Place in West Augusta located near the Augusta Exchange offers $1 million homes. The majority of the upper middle class/rich people in Martinez do live near West Augusta, but they reside off Stevens Creek, Furys Ferry, etc. The Augusta Exchange is a few miles away from Riverwatch Oarkway.

The demographics of West Augusta pull in the Texas Roadhouse underway on Washington rd, Walmart on Wrightsboro, future development next to Buffalo Wild Wings in the Exchange, new development coming in front of Kroger on Washington, etc.

The census estimate was related to 2010-2012. The last official census is from the year 2010.

The $8 million Holiday Inn Express is underway, and the proposed hotel next to the common is moving along now. The impact of the TEE Center is easily noticeable.

Riverman. Columbia County is growing, but several counties in Georgia had a faster growth rate.

Junkyard.. Did Georgia turn into Massachusetts overnight? The majority of counties with higher median incomes than Richmond are overwhelmingly suburban metro Atlanta counties. Then you might have the main suburb of Athens(Oconee), Macon(Houston), etc who are richer overall.

Saying It Slowly With Compassion

"Riverman. Columbia County is growing, but several counties in Georgia had a faster growth rate."

I'll say it slowly. Columbia County is one of the fastest growing counties in the NATION. It is 20 something. I've posted numerous links and articles. There are a few other counties in the state with even higher growth rates, but, rest assured, Richmond is not one of them.

The last official census in 2010 showed the growth in Richmond County stagnant while losing a big percentage of whites. The 2012 official estimate shows Richmond with slight growth, a little less than the national average. Meanwhile Columbia County is booming. I really don't know why you even want to discuss the population swing. It is what it is.

Thank you, Countyman, I'm

Thank you, Countyman, I'm aware of that, but I also know that shopping center draws a lot of CC- and the median income in CC IS at that level, Richmond County is not. If you check out the other Genghis Grills, you will see that they locate in cities where the median income is in the 50's, so I don't know where you got your information. They came here because of CC, not Richmond County.

You seem to think that Genghis Grill is an upscale restaurant. It is not. It is a moderate-priced restaurant that caters to middle class people. They like to locate in shopping centers that have middle to upper middle class shoppers, on roads that are well-travelled. That is their niche.

It is not luxurious- in fact, you go get a bowl, pick out your ingredients from a buffet table, and then take it up to the counter and they fry it up for you.

It's akin to Wendy's- you get to have your food the way you want it. In the Charlotte airport, where one is located, you don't get the choices you have in their restaurants, but their entrees are around $8-10 (and that's at airport prices, remember).

Their food isn't any more expensive than what you would get at an Applebee's or TGIF.

There just aren't enough people in West Augusta to support a fast-food restaurant on their own, not with all the other competition out there. Your idea that all the West Augusta folks would be beating a path to their door is funny. A fast-food restaurant needs to do thousands of dollars of business a month, and to think that the people in West Augusta would spend thousands there, for Mongolian barbeque, is really out in left field, Countyman.

By the way, I have a BBA in Marketing, Countyman- how about you? I could do demographic information and niche marketing in my sleep, and I don't need little friends at the DDA to feed me information.

If they located in Augusta solely because of West Augusta, they need to have their heads examined. And, just so you know, Countyman, people that live in $1 million houses aren't such big consumers of fast-food, they like full-service restaurants. The biggest consumers are middle-class to upper-middle class Americans, just as I said. People that live in $1 million homes don't have incomes of $65,000. The average American income is $63,000, Countyman, that's not wealthy people, that's just middle-class. It may seem like a lot of money to you, but it's not.

Facts

Riverman. Please show me ONE reference from the US Census saying Columbia County is ranked in the 20's comparing every single county?

"For counties over 100,000 population, Columbia County is the 22nd fastest growing county in the NATION. For those over 10,000, it is the 45th fastest growing county in the NATION."

This is your comment from another article, but now today you're telling us CC is ranked in the 20's no matter the size of the counties.

The 2012 estimates show both Richmond and Aiken gained around the same number of people.

The white population of Richmond County is growing almost twice as fast compared to Columbia County. From 2010-2011 1.1% in Richmond versus .6 % in Columbia.
