Comments from readers:

GEORGIA REGENTS university has a job called “government and community specialist.” What do you reckon that’s supposed to mean?

PLACES OF BUSINESS need to be cleaning their sidewalks to rid them of the gum. With the hot weather, it strings all over your pants and shoes and gets tracked in the businesses’ carpet and your own carpet. With this hot weather, I don’t see how business don’t do this automatically. (Goodwill on Peach Orchard Road is especially bad.)

I WOULD LOVE TO SEE the details of the 50 terrorist plots that were supposedly foiled by the National Security Agency surveillance program. Why am I suspicious of what our government is telling us? I just hope that I am not getting paranoid.

I CANNOT BELIEVE Augusta had a pride festival. Sickening.

APPARENTLY SOME folks in the area believe The Chronicle can publish only letters to the editor that agree with their beliefs and ideologies. Someone please tell these poor delusionals that the opinion page is named so for that specific reason: to allow others to state their opinions, be they left, right, in the center or off the charts? And if you can’t take reading the opinion of others without having a self-righteous fit, then do yourself a favor and buy only the periodicals that espouse your particular point of view.

WHEN WILL DEANS Bridge Road be finished? Are we waiting for more people to get killed? Please do something quick about that road before more people get hurt.

THE AUGUSTA Commission is a joke. It has misspent hundreds of thousands of taxpayers dollars because of incompetence. Every one of them should be voted out and replaced. They are making Augusta a laughingstock.

PEOPLE SHOULD STOP worrying about coyotes and keep their cats indoors.

INSTEAD OF FIXING our badly needed repairs to roads one commissioner wants to build a playhouse on a parking deck downtown. Go figure.

Updates

#4.. Augusta is the second largest metro in the state of Georgia. People similar to Deke and Azziz are desperately needed here in Augusta. The growth will force Augusta to change much faster than so many people want the city too.

Last rant.. TSplost will repair many of the local roads here in the area. Nice roads don't attract new money by increasing the number of tourist similar to the Veranda.

A few updates related to the local construction.
1. West Augusta(land clearing on Wheeler road between the SRP building and the Shell gas station across from T Mobile)
2. West Augusta/Martinez(bulldozers located between Carmax and Sprint inside of Wheeler Town Park unless the name is different)
3. Martinez(work started on the redevelopment of the former Ryan's)
4. Grovetown(Applebee's is coming but I not sure if the location is the city limits)

The Walmart on Wrightsboro/Texas Roadhouse on Washington/Genghis Grill in the Augusta Exchange in West Augusta, Walmart Market on Furys Ferry in Martinez, Cook Out restaurant in Harrisburg, Walgreens/3 acre development at Tobacco/Windsor Spring in South Augusta, etc are well underway.

"...I just hope that I am not getting paranoid."

It's not paranoid when it's been shown over and over the government IS lying to you, and they ARE watching and listening to you.

"...government and community specialist

About three times the salary of someone who works for a living. Unless Azziz is involved, in which case, four times. With free parking when the new garage is built.

Seriously, dtstewart.

Seriously, dtstewart. I love cats and dogs, have both at home, but the feral cat population in Augusta is OFF THE HOOK.

Bring on the coyotes. Let natures own checks and balances do some work for a change.

When a person is in HOT Water and can tell a lie....

knowing they control the only source of the information.
They likely will lie, fib, or wag the dog.

APPLICATION OF THE STATEMENT:
All of a sudden, too many of our Government agencies, that are in HOT Water, are citing actions that were for our own good, and they control the ONLY source of the information.

Do we believe them?

Downtown tourists don't mean a damned thing if you happen to live in the significant geographical area of the county where the quality of life sucks and you have had to sit and watch the "City" take your tax money and flush it down the downtown toilet for 17 years while the restaurants and retail in your area have fled the local government policies of spreading the plague of neglect and Section 8 dumping.

It is truly sad that a

It is truly sad that a municipality of 200,000 people can't attract any other major industry than tourism, and a significant portion of their time, effort, and money are spent to attract mythical tourists. To have 1.5 million tourists means an average of over 4,000 per day, every day. Sure.

It is truly sad that a municipality of 200,000 people have leaders that are more concerned with Downtown than the infrastructure of a city. Because fixing a road is like fixing something in your house that breaks- the longer you wait, the more expensive it is to repair, the problem doesn't ever magically disappear, and you WILL have to fix it eventually. You ALWAYS have to fix it eventually.

It is truly sad that a municipality has a big TEE Center that is rarely used and is a huge drain on its revenue, but doesn't have enough money to fix their roads. And then a commissioner wants to put in a superfluous veranda.

When I go to other cities and towns, I can tell right away how the economic climate is in that municipality- by the roads. Prosperous cities have the money to keep their roads fixed. Cities that are on the ragged edge do not, and it leaves a terrible impression.

I disagree that nice roads don't attract tourists. It's part of the overall impression that a visitor receives from a city. Between the roads and the run-down major arteries of Augusta, it's no wonder that it's difficult to attract industries. Augusta looks like an old, run-down former mill town, they are all over the South.

You can put lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig.

Lipstick on a pig...

Corgi sometimes I think the downtown leaders have thrown the southside away....they put in a park & say hey "Look what we did for ya"....maybe they are dreaming that one day the downtown will draw thousands of bright new & young workers.....anything to revitalize a decaying inner city.....more tax paying citizens are leaving Richmond county while they wile away the resources....I don't think they have a clue........we all want gov to represent us...too bad Augusta can't see that.

Augusta will never be Atlanta Ga....they will end up holding the bag with the pig inside..imho

From a black employee of Paula Deen

I've tried to keep quiet about the Paula Deen situation, but I've seen so much "dirt" being tossed around, I figured I might as well shed a little light.

I've worked at Ms. Deen's restaurant for close to nine years and I'm as "BLACK" as they come. I was never forced to enter through the back door. It's a rule that ALL employees enter through the back door so we don't disturb guest while they're eating. I'm currently a waiter there, which is about as front house as you can get. I didn't have to beg to be a waiter. In fact, I was ASKED to be one. Many of her staff in the front house are black. Young black kids in college. Bathroom usage is for ALL employees, but we(ALL EMPLOYEES) only use the back of the house restrooms during service so that we don't disturb guest. One of Paula's longest working employees, an elderly BLACK woman, was invited to be a guest at Paula's house after this lady had surgery. Paula looked out for her. The restaurant looks out for ALL OF US by providing health and dental insurance and 401 K plans. Not too many restaurants doing that. We're also allowed paid vacation. As a BLACK man who has been with the company for some time now, I'm simply saying don't believe all accusations you're hearing....cause they're just that. Accusations. And no, I'm not just saying this to brown nose my employers. I'm saying this as someone who doesn't believe in casting stones at an individual for making a mistake.

Signed,
A happily employed and thankful young man.
Willie Smith

Sad but this is not the news the Socialist Media wants in a upcoming elections year.

As I have said before likely every (white, black or poke-a-dotted) adult person in the USA has used the word.

But not all have used it in a racial way to describe the Black American population as a whole.

Having taken the time to read her court statements, I do not find she did either.

To me this nothing more that staged exploited opportunity by race
baiters to incite the black vote. All to promote a case or to rally around Rev. ________ and protest on the court house steps, for pocket $$$$ and donations.

In my book, Paula D. is of high character and integrity. She was honest and true to her oath to tell the truth, despite knowing she stood to lose $millions and be vilified by
millions more.

I wish we had politicians with her level of honesty and integrity in Congress, the State Dept. and the White House. .

More medical records at risk.......now this is my worry about our health records....it says that move to electronic data creates opportunities for laptop thieves....

I can see lawsuits galore over this problem.....with everything in the news lately how can anyone THINK the records would be safe.....just a matter of time before some top official will have his health details read on the nightly news....

I remember Paula Deen was in

I remember Paula Deen was in an episode of Ancestry.com's "Who Do You Think You Are?" I don't remember what was found on her family tree, but I do remember her smile and kind words, and excitement when she learned where she came from.

If you can get arrested for hunting or fishing without a license, but not for entering and remaining in the country illegally — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If you have to get your parents’ permission to go on a field trip or to take an aspirin in school, but not to get an abortion — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If you MUST show your identification to board an airplane, cash a check, buy liquor, or check out a library book and rent a video, but not to vote for who runs the government — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If the government wants to prevent stable, law-abiding citizens from owning gun magazines that hold more than ten rounds, but gives twenty F-16 fighter jets to the crazy new leaders in Egypt — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If, in the nation’s largest city, you can buy two 16-ounce sodas, but not one 24-ounce soda, because 24-ounces of a sugary drink might make you fat — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If an 80-year-old woman or a three-year-old girl who is confined to a wheelchair can be strip-searched by the TSA at the airport, but a woman in a burka or a hijab is only subject to having her neck and head searched — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If your government believes that the best way to eradicate trillions of dollars of debt is to spend trillions more — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If a seven-year-old boy can be thrown out of school for saying his teacher is “cute,” but hosting a sexual exploration or diversity class in grade school is perfectly acceptable — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If hard work and success are met with higher taxes and more government regulation and intrusion, while not working is rewarded with Food Stamps, WIC checks, Medicaid benefits, subsidized housing, and free cell phones — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If the government’s plan for getting people back to work is to provide incentives for not working, by granting 99 weeks of unemployment checks, without any requirement to prove that gainful employment was diligently sought, but couldn’t be found — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If you pay your mortgage faithfully, denying yourself the newest big-screen TV, while your neighbor buys iPhones, time shares, a wall-sized do-it-all plasma screen TV and new cars, and the government forgives his debt when he defaults on his mortgage — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If being stripped of your Constitutional right to defend yourself makes you more “safe” according to the government — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

What a country!

How about we give God a reason to continue blessing America!

Amen (thank you Jeff)
