Shepeard Community Blood Center has an urgent need for blood of all types.

The center, which is the only contracted blood provider for 21 area hospitals, has less than a day’s supply of Type O-negative blood and less than a three-day supply of O-positive blood in storage, a news release said.

Increased patient use has caused the shortage, and patients are waiting for blood. Cancer and surgical patients are facing delays in life-saving procedures until the need is met, the release said.

Shepeard has donation centers in Augusta and Aiken, and donors can find a bloodmobile by visiting ShepeardBlood.org. For more information, call Pamela Rascon at (706) 833-9086 or Greg Bearden at (706) 833-8314.
