Beech Island Fire Department Capt. Calvin McCravy said a 68-year-old woman was taken to the Joseph M. Still Burn Center at Doctors Hospital after she suffered second- and third-degree burns on 60 percent of her body. The woman’s identity and condition had not been released Thursday night.

Firefighters responded about 5:45 p.m. to the fire in the 300 block of Indian Mound Drive, McCravy said.

Five dogs inside the home also were rescued, said McCravy, adding that no one else was inside when firefighters arrived.

The home was “intact,” but the bedroom was heavily damaged, McCravy said.

The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the cause.
