The popular “mega ramps” at Columbia County’s Wildwood Park will be closed Saturday and Sunday because of the Powerboat Regatta being held there, according to park coordinator Jeb Bell.

A nearby area, Pollard’s Cove, also will be closed on those dates, and there will be limited access to the mega ramp area and to Pollard’s Cove on Friday because race setup activities will be under way.

Also, Bell said, the park’s Wildwood Annual Pass cannot be used on those dates.

I'm not really crazy about

I'm not really crazy about closing down public, taxpayer owned and operated facilities for these types of events. Geez, a few regattas and fishing tournaments and pretty soon every weekend of the summer is "closed to the public" for some special event. What good is it having these "public" facilities if the public can't use them when they want. "Oh, it's just one weekend." Sounds like...."Oh, it's just another penny tax." Well, yeah, but it might be the weekend I wanted to launch my boat and those pennies might be what I was going to buy my bait with.

REGATTA HISTORY...

Wasn't the PowerBoat Regatta held in Augusta before it moved to Columbia County's Wildwood Park?
