Man hit, killed by car in North Augusta

  • Follow Metro

A North Augusta man was killed early Saturday after he was struck by a car on Ridge Road.

According to Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton, Reginald F. Prescott, 41, was walking south in the northbound lane around midnight when he was struck by a 2003 Ford driven by Petronella Payne of Clarks Hill, Ga., who was driving home from work.

Prescott was taken to Georgia Regents Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 2:17 a.m. from multiple body trauma.

Carlton said in a news release that weather and low visibility appear to have been a factor in the accident.

not necessary

I agree, Trulyworried. Speculation is ok but the kind of comments made are unkind and unnecessary. If they wanted you to know more info, they would have printed it.

Judge not, oldredneck

First, the article says the accident happened at midnight, not 2AM. The poor man died at 2AM. Second, what gives you the right to judge either person? This was a terrible accident. Nothing more. My prayers are with the families involved.

Tragedy, loss of life, but no accident.

Calling everything an accident removes responsibility. A collective cop out.

An ACCIDENT is an occurrence that cannot be anticipated or predicted.

If you are walking in the roadway and are hit by a car, that is not an accident.

If someone makes a left turn in front of oncoming traffic and damages another vehicle, that is no accident.

If you are in the middle of a golf course in a lightning storm and are hit by lightning, that is no accident.

If an intoxicated driver runs a redlight an kills you, that is no accident.

If you drive down River Watch in the wrong lane and hit other cars, that is no accident.

There are root causes for vehicular deaths. Mostly, we do not want to know the cause anymore. Then we have to do something.

Hate

Well three comments before I was censured for posing questions no one wants to answer. We kill too many people every year on our highways and no one seems to hate that. One commenter even seems to believe that we only need to know what the A/C wants us to know! The three hated me for asking the questions as to why this happened. I guess they would rather see people killed in the highway than me post questions when it happens. The A/C can pull my post, it is their paper, but sticking their head in the sand will not stop people getting killed in the road due to stupid laws. As I have allways said, the laws of phyics will not be rewriten by man.

hate?

Telling someone that they are totally out of line is not hate - what you said was wrong and I made a comment, period - takes a lot more to "hate" someone - I hope!

time and place

If you were at a funeral for some friends, and folks were offering sympathy to the family, would you give your opinion on the cause of death? Hopefully not. Granted this is not the same level of sensitivity, but one should sense the flavor of the discussion and/or article posted and go from there. If other folks are posting condolences, it's not classy to make comments that are inflammatory, judgmental, etc. I think that is what everyone is getting at.

Now is the time and the A/C is the place. A person was killed, why? Were there no sidewalks available? No shoulder to walk on? Was excess speed or drugs or booze involved? Why do we kill someone in the road almost every week around the Augusta area? The A/C is the place to air these questions, the grave side is the place for condolences. If the A/C will not go after these questions then we may have to start reading the National Enquirer to get real news! Get mad at the system we currently have that kills people.
