Rants & Raves

Comments from readers:

HOW IS IT THAT the county can reduce the services by 50 percent and not reduce the rates? Simple logic says that they can reduce the rate. Oh, wait, just look at the money they are spending from the fees. Nice landscaping at the landfill, a new compressed natural gas station, purchasing new trucks for the contractors. They say this comes from the fees at the landfill and not our tax dollars, but couldn’t they reduce the fees at the landfill and then reduce the taxes that we pay? This should be illegal.

RAVE FOR Commissioner Donnie Smith for his valued attempt to hold the fire chief responsible for his actions. What is the reason for Bill Lockett’s call for Mr. Smith to halt his questioning of mishandling of the tanks for firefighters? Is this the same ploy being used here in Augusta as Washington D.C? The supervisors MUST BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE.

RANT FOR RICK MCKEE. Mark Sanford has won his election. You have no reason to continue your petty attacks against him. You have no grounds to presume judgment on his parenting. He made a terrible mistake; he’s paid a high price for it. Are you trying to mimic the liberal, extremist editorial cartoons in the New York Times?

WHILE THE GRADUATION of the joint student bodies of ASU and MCG was historic, it was a very sad occasion. The people of Augusta had our history stolen, and The Augusta Chronicle continues to use the gruesome moniker that the joined university is now forced to bear.

INTERESTING THAT two of the most popular baby boy’s names are William and Liam, since they are the same name.

IT WAS REALLY NICE the mail carriers had a food drive May 11 but our carrier must have not wanted to participate ‘cause he left our mail in box and didn’t bother to reach down and pick up our food bags from me or my neighbors.

WHAT DOES IT TAKE to get anything printed in this section of the paper? I have sent several comments over the past six months -- nothing printed. These comments were to the point, concerning a state or federal event in politics or sports. But yet I read such drivel as --why do tires on cars look like they are turning backward on TV. REALLY, this type of comment warrants comment in this section.

RC Trash Collection.

It does seem that if we lost a pickup day that the price would go down but if I understand the program we will still have the same service provided in one day. We will just have to wait and see. Hope it works out. If you need another can/cart call for one.

Will somebody publish the names

of the 6 ARC commissioners that voted us a 100% tax hike for garbage collection?

I'd like to track them and their families employment "opportunities" for a few years.

Rick McKee

His cartoons often parrot the editorial of the day. No surprise that he is towing the line of the Morris' that employ him. What else would you expect?

Last rant

Funny indeed. I often wonder who determines what is printed in the Rants&Raves. Is it one person or a group? Are you allowed to drink alcohol before reviewing what is to be published? If not, then you should.

I would expect McKee to seek employment elsewhere if he was uncomfortable with his employer. Why would you question his integrity? I am reminded of the old saying about "pointing your finger".

About the drinking, I have noticed a few of the regulars commit many more errors in spelling after 10 p.m.
Of course someone had to teach me how to spell gauge, but that was in the a.m.

But people will not do that because they will be charged ANOTHER $124 a year on top of the $310.50. They will do the same thing they did before we had trash pick-up. They will take their extra garbage and throw it in the ditch somewhere out on Hwy 1 or some rural road. We are going to be right back to the same situation they used as an excuse to force this overpriced garbage service on us the first time.

Integrity

All I am saying is that he is drawing just what his employers like. From what I have observed, I think he is comfortable with their point of view and embraces it as his own. Why else would they have hired him or why would he have applied for the job?

OK

Maybe I was confused by your reference to "towing the line". Kind of implies that it's not his own opinion, but that of his employee and he is, well, towing the line.

I noticed a lot of the

I noticed a lot of the Politicians and Political pundits on the Sunday NEWS Shows seem to be reciting or slipping in to their remarks a common theme. The difficulty of applying 21st century questions to a document written over 200 years ago.

Are we hearing the initial steps for a US Constitutional Rewrite?

US Constitution

The US Constitution doesn't need to be rewritten. Nor does it need any more amendments. It has been analyzed and interpreted to death. It was written simply and straightforward to be taken as it is, not to be slanted to any one persons or groups opinion of what it says. What we need in Washington and our courts is simple understanding without trying to imply a hidden meaning in the document.

Toe, tow and TOW

For you Army vets, you could TOW the target with a line of sorts...a wire. Tube-launched, optically tracked, wire-guided missile.

I’m just totally surprised and disappointed that something like this has happened,” Mumtaz said. “This particular center hasn’t done anything, but sometimes people take their frustrations and anger … with someone who is innocent.”

THIS PARTICULAR CENTER HASN'T DONE ANYTHING. Is he admitting he has knowledge that other centrrs in the US have?

Our commissioners and department heads don't have "simple logic".....the have simpleton logic.

Besides, YOU have to pay for Mark Johnson's Compressed Natural Gas empire so he can sell his captured methane to the garbage haulers who are driving the new CNG trucks which YOU are also paying for.....and for the CNG "gas station" from which he will sell his product from which the "city" will make a profit.......NONE OF WHICH will go toward reducing your garbage bill.

Oh, well

Can't please everybody.... Good thing that's not my goal.

As for my cartoons lining up with the editorials from time to time, here's a little insight on how that happens: I draw what I want and the writers do their thing. As we're putting the pages together for the week and we notice similar topics, we will often shift one or the other to different days so that they do match up. We find that this method helps to give our readers a frame of reference, so that they will better understand what we're trying to say in both. Thanks for noticing!

Trash , Trash and Maybe Some

Trash , Trash and Maybe Some Hope.

I understand in last nights commissioner meeting District #8 Wayne Guilfoyle brought up the trash issue and might have enough support from fellow commissioners on some proposed logical and ADA trash service changes.

Based on what we already know about the contract, written with the assistance of the National Trash Haulers, there is little that can be done to return to our previous loved rural hauler services.

But it seems Wayne may have corrected a few issues and major pains.

NOTE: The vote to support the changes is next week so call your commissioners in support NOW.

Government Healthcare

I have made many rants about how long it takes to be seen in various clinics at the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center. That still stands.

But a HUGE rave to Dr Kristin Etzkorn in the rheumatology clinic. Less than a year ago I was concerned if I would be able to continue working due to rheumatoid arthritis. While I am still not back to 100% things are much, much better. Thanks Doc.

"RANT FOR RICK MCKEE. Mark Sanford

has won his election."

.
And now he needs to be frequently reminded that's he's NOT Bill Clinton. That's because conservatives expect and demand more of their elected officials.

Children (Our nation's future) see what's going on. Don't you care what they think? They got the wrong message from Sanford and the right message from Rick.

Rick put the pressure where it was needed.
