Georgia woman accused of shoplifting runs over 4-year-old son in attempted getaway

CENTERVILLE, Ga. — A 4-year-old boy is recovering from critical injuries to his head and internal organs after police say his mother ran him over as she tried fleeing a loss-prevention officer outside a department store Thursday evening.

Arkebia Albury, 25, is charged with child cruelty, reckless conduct and theft by shoplifting, Centerville police said.

The Georgia State Patrol has also charged the woman with serious injury by motor vehicle, failure to stop at an accident with injuries, driving with a suspended license, and two counts of child seat belt violations.

Police Chief Sidney Andrews told The Telegraph of Macon that one of Albury’s children got into the passenger side of the car, but the 4-year-old boy was run over as the officer approached and the woman tried to flee the scene.

Albury put the injured boy in the back seat, ignoring the officer’s plea to leave the child where he was and wait for an ambulance, Andrews said.

“The child is in bad shape,” Andrews said. “It wasn’t looking too good.”

Police later arrested Albury and took the boy to a hospital.

The woman was leaving a Belk department store about 15 miles south of Macon, and authorities were unclear on what was taken.

“I believe it was a couple of T-shirts. I do know it was clothing. It was a misdemeanor amount,” Andrews said. “This certainly was not worth it.”

Why do we put up with folks

Why do we put up with folks that act in this manner,it's bad enough taking a child shoplifting but to compound it by injuring your own trying to flee is just unspeakable. Then when you think it can't get any worse to not seeking medical help for a child who just has been ran over thats someone who needs culled from the pool.

Step up to the plate

family of these children (who are worthy of caring for them) or place them in a foster home. Obviously this mother is NOT parent material.

Caring Parent

I do not know how a person could live with themselves by not having accountability of their children even in a situation like this. God watch over the mother and her children.

Oh, Yeah....

Getting away with your stolen booty is certainly more important than protecting the life of your child.

Any fool knows that!!!!

Those poor children.

We have plenty just like her in our own area, sad to say. When you pay people to have babies, they tend to start wanting a paycheck as early as possible, waaaaaay before they have a clue what a person really is, much less what their own responsibility and accountability is for the life and welfare of a defenseless one.
