Rants & Raves

Comments from readers:

THEY SHOULDN’T HAVE to ponder solutions to the violence downtown; the lighting and the cameras should go into effect immediately. There should also be a curfew downtown.

TO THE FOOD STAMP RANTER: You don’t know if I am taking my neighbors, parents or grandparents shopping. You need to look more closely before you make a statement.

RANT TO OUR local judicial system. Very often people are arrested for theft of lost or mislaid property. But let a local attorney get arrested for this, and you have several other attorneys willing to help her free of charge and will probably get her charges dropped. Are these same attorneys willing to help everyone arrested on these same charges free of charge? What happened to this attorney’s case?

RICHMOND COUNTY IS not the only county in Georgia that is black and poor, but it is the only county that furloughs its students and teachers. Maybe they need to ask around and see what other counties are doing to balance their budget.

WE IN HEPHZIBAH do not want this new trash service that is being forced on us, and our city officials should be ashamed to force us to take it. A lot of our neighbors are on fixed incomes and cannot afford this service. Shame on all involved.

I MAY BE WRONG, but I promise to get to the real facts of the Scott Dean trial and his last appeal. This is wrong. Trust me, I am getting the Innocence Project involved. I am all for justice, but this is dead wrong.

RANT TO COMCAST CABLE. Why did the National Weather Service interrupt programming multiple times on May 9 to broadcast a missing 88-year-old man’s disappearance?

SAVE MCG in Augusta, Don’t vote for Nathan Deal.

I AM CHINESE. If Chinese people were committing the majority of violent crimes, I would be ashamed.

ONCE AGAIN, SOUTH CAROLINA voters confirm every politician’s favorite adage: There’s no electorate better than an uninformed electorate.

RANT TO THE National Organization of Women. Why didn’t you have me burn my high heels instead of my bras? Now I’m crippled and have sagging breasts.

...what other counties are doing to balance their budgets

They Quit taxing just to spend,
They Quit trying to revitalize Downtown despite everything slapping them in the face it ain't working.
They don't give out 20% raises on day 1 to new elected officials .

Lets start with these and we can move on if you need more?

Good luck with the Scott Dean thing

I doubt it will go anywhere, despite all the issues surrounding the "victims/witnesses".

RANT TO COMCAST CABLE.

There is so much to Rant about for COMCAST, like tests at 8pm instead of at 2am.

WOW! please hurry up the cable install to get out to OWR/Brown Rd. and further south. Your $100.00 LESS price tag for the same package saves me $1200 a year and that equals a lot of food.

NOT.... no electorate better than an uninformed electorate.

Actually the populous knew very well what to expect if another a liberal democrat got to congress. They voted constitutionally wise.

The uninformed voters

spoke and will in every election. On the contrary, the INFORMED voted for the political platform to prevent yet another socialist enabler taking office.

Besides, for decades on end, the core Democratic platform has told us private lives do not matter. Sex with interns, then lie directly on national television about it until the DNA shows up? Okay. Your gay lover running a prostitution ring out of your Congressional office. No biggie. Recruiting for the Ku Klux Klan? Boys will be boys.

Right?

Lawyers are like any other criminal clique

... union officials, civil rights leaders, cops; they protect each other at the public's expense. Congress is made up of lawyers.

'Nuff said?

"...look more closely before you make a statement..."

Actually, NO. Anyone on the paying end of this endless largesse has the right to make any statement they want. You don't like the criticism, take care of your "...neighbors, parents or grandparents..." on your own dime.

Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives

I was invited to a video shoot at my favorite restaurant in San Carolos this afternoon. Guy Fieri was not there but will be there on Wednesday for another tape. I took my son and we sat at this small restaurant with about 16 other people. It was fun watching how they set things up and coach you on what to do. The best part was that all of the food and drinks they put in front of you were free.
I don't know when this piece will air but I was proudly wearing my "Soul" tee-shirt with a picture of James Brown on the front, courtesy of the Soul Bar on Broad Street.
They will probably cut me out of the show as I was not near as TV proficient (read bull shifting) as the rest of the folks.
Anyway, it was fun seeing how TV shows are produced.
If they ever do one in Augusta, I would like to see them do one at the Whiskey Bar.

Sure, and an APC parked in every intersection during the day with the Rolling Thunder death squads in training ready to swarm, checking people's papers.

Fourlough days, median income, etc

#4... Multiple counties in Georgia laid off teachers, and definitely had numerous furlough days. Even 'pristine' Cobb and Cherokee counties(suburbs of Atlanta) had to cut teachers or create furlough days.

How is Richmond County considered poor? The average of the median income between 2007-2011 is almost $40k, and that's very good comparing it against the core counties in the state of Georgia...... The only Apple, PF Changs, Sephora, Pandora, H&M, Jared Galleria, etc located outside of metro Atlanta in the state of Georgia(close to 9 million people) lies within Richmond County.

Why downtown is important?

Nonoc... Artspace coming downtown in the future clearly shows the revitalization is working. I'm hoping anybody that didn't already can please take the survey. Every city in the US would love to have this very important opportunity. There's nothing similar to this project anywhere in the entire CSRA, and it's the second one in the southeast($13 million development in Fort Lauderdale).
http://www.artspaceaugusta.org/

If only half of the people living in Richmond County were law abiding.. There's no way Augusta could attract Imax, Apple, H&M, Forever 21, etc before Greenville or Costco, Sephora, PF Changs, Apple, H&M, etc before Columbia. Not to mention the crime rate is lower compared to the majority of peer cities.

Rural Sourcing recently brought 100 IT jobs, ZAPATA Technology is hiring, and Southpoint media is opening a new office(June 6th) all in the same building downtown. The Enterprise Mill already had an impressive tenant list beforehand.
http://www.enterprisemill.com/index.php/Current-Tenants.html

South Augusta(Starbucks/Rockwood), East Augusta(Hagler/PCS Nitrogen expansion) and even Aiken/Graniteville(Bridgestone/Recleim) will continue to attract industrial development. The fact remains if Augusta wants to increase the number of high paying office jobs. Then it will have to rely on either West Augusta or downtown to attract them. I want all of Richmond County/metro Augusta/CSRA to do well, but 'downtown' is the heart of any community. Every part of Richmond County plays their role, and downtown is for attracting office jobs, local upscale boutiques, local/national restaurants, national retailers, sense of community, culture, etc.

if your home is more than 300
Unpublished

if your home is more than 300 feet from the right of way, you can opt out of the garbage service. my house is well over 1000 feet from right of way, now i just have some minor paperwork etc to complete and they will come get the trash cans they so graciously dumped at the end of (and in the middle of) my driveway...

TO THE FOOD STAMP RANTER

I agree, Food Stamps, EBT Cards and Handicap Parking Permits should have the photo and info of the person they are issued to on them. That would reduce abuse somewhat. Especially if a $1,000.00 fine were attached to anyone using them without the person to whom it's issued to being in attendance. But then, some people are shameless and wouldn't care anyway!

To lib friends on here

If the punks had a dang job & actually had to work during the day...(work-an ugly word) they wouldn't be hanging at 4am looking for trouble...they would be sleeping like most workers do.....now see if you can grasp this...IF THEY WORK, more than likely they WON'T SHOOT-KILL-ROBB...soooo see the reason the freebies should get the cutting axe...it is not a REP thing...it is a safety thing.

About the Curfew

About curfews, when I was 15 years old on the Folly Beach pier where they played all the great beach music and sold you beer if you could see over the counter, the policeman kept telling me to leave once the clock hit midnight, but I stayed and stayed talking to this girl from Charlotte. The policeman finally had enough and took me to jail. The cell was so small I couldn't lay down; it was kind of like a large telephone booth. My friends had to find an adult to pay my $15 fine and get me out. I learned a lesson.

Where WE'RE headed:

Because of the soak the rich policies enacted in France last year, some individuals have had a tax bill of over 100% of their incomes. My favorite comment on the article so far: Bet the politicians who enacted this don't pay near that amount!
